As all the energy seemed to be used up last night, Mount Forest Rams in the provincials seem a dream, for next year maybe…
Mount Forest starts of with what seems hard work as Abigail gives of a good hard shot towards the Wilmot end but immediately have to race back to their own end. As Elyse tries the shot goes wide, Natalie E. and Meagan steel the puck from the Wolverines and go for their end, but don’t get far. As Cali goes for a breakaway she has to try to wrestle between 3 Wolverines and that was a bit much, the game turns around and the Wolverines end up shooting at our goalpost. Natalie D. and Allyson give the puck a chase and Avery has the first good try for a goal the crowd sees today, and the rebound comes Natalie D. misses a good chance for the first goal. Mattea and Abigail fight on the board for possession of the puck and as Elyse gets the chance to bring it in her nice shot is stopped by a very alert Wilmot goalie.
As the face off is in the Mount Forest end the puck is brought around by the Rams from behind the net and Allysa tries hard to get the puck out, it stays in and confusion in front of Esther lets a Wolverine all by herself to make the first goal, her first attempt is stopped, but Esther has no chance and the second one goes in.
As in the last minutes of the first period Gillian works the puck in the Wilmot end and with Elyse on the blue line, another good shot is denied by the Wolverine goalie.
The second period starts, hope is still high in the stand but there is also the comparison made to last night and the girls seem to be in slow motion today.
A nice tip from Sydney keeps the game in the Wilmot end and gives Natalie D. the time to make a pass to Elyse who gives it off to Allyson and back to Natalie D. who almost gets it in with her backhand, this I think was the best play of the whole game, great passing! Another good dig from Sydney helps Elyse to interfere with the Wilmot attack, but not enough and as an earlier play repeated itself, the defence was nowhere to be found and Esther had to face another attack, where she stopped the first shot but wasn’t fast enough for the second.
Pucks fly high and shot after shot is fired, the girls seem tired and even outplaying the goalie doesn’t work today. Avery picks up the puck from behind the Mount Forest net and as Abigail and Cali are waiting for it on the blue line they are ignored and the puck ends up in Wolverine territory, she tries hard but unfortunately good plays aren’t made this way.
It looks like desperation sets in but just as we are about to give up, the third period brings hope back. Avery gives of a great pass in front of the Wilmot net to Elyse and all she has to do is push it in, maybe this gets their adrenaline flowing…..
It got Mattea going in all her enthusiasm as she tries out her own net to keep Esther alert. And this is a typical mistake for sure tonight, keeping the puck to yourself instead of shooting it out of your end. Hockey is supposed to be a fast game, lots of quick passing and shots to go around.But goals are starting to pile up we give off a lot of assists tonight just to the wrong team! And the Wilmot Wolverines don’t hesitate as they get them delivered on a silver plate….
