As this season starting to come to an end, the girls show off once more and give us some excellent games to watch and as we enjoy their talents and all the things they have learned this past year, we can only be PROUD!!!
Game 1 TCDMHA Rebels
The game starts of fast and while with one hand selling cupcakes the other hand tries to capture the game, I can see Jenna stickhandle her way though towards the Rebels end, as the puck get on Abigail’s stick she gives of a “body push” passes it on to Allysa, who is ready and gets it on the boards to Elyse, who brings it in and finish with a good shot on net. Then still in high speed Avery and Cali get together and with help of Natalie E. on her knees make a great play. Still early in the game, Elyse finds herself all alone in front of the net, she circles gives of a backhand and the first goal is in!
No time to breath Natalie E. gives a good pass to Abigail who also tries a backhand but this time the goalie was ready.
A face off in the Rebel end, Abigail wins it and with Danielle racing after it towards the net, almost another goal.
The second period shows some good passing from Natalie E. in front of their goalie and as Avery brings it up, a shot on goal, the rebound is for Elyse to push in 2-0. But there is also pressure the Mount Forest way and Nikki, Allyson and Allysa pull together and makes some saves so Esther doesn’t have to. But they have to work hard and as the Rebels get a breakaway, Avery makes a great steel just in front of the Mount Forest net and brings the puck back the other way. As Mattea gets a tripping penalty, what doesn’t stop the girls and shorthanded the score comes to 3-0! As the game goes on Meagan chases the puck towards the Rebel end. A nice pass comes from behind the net Elyse and Allyson try to poke this one in. But the next face off the goalie gives a rebound and the 4th is in.
Mattea tries a hard shot from the blue line, which gets deflected. Elyse goes for the pass but it comes back, so she chooses the breakaway and lets the puck sail over the goalie for a 5-0. Danielle go for the net and get close with a good pass but nobody their to finish it off. Abigail give off a pass to Gillian but it is intercepted by the Rebels and Elyse shows off some nice moves and makes it 6-0.
Then Cali goes on the breakaway and Natalie E. helps out with Meagan on the board, digging to keep it going the right way.
Nikki keeps the puck alive and as Avery picks it up and needs two tries but in it goes, 7-0. Allyson gives off a great pass to Natalie D. as they make their way towards the Rebel end and as teams change lines Abigail finds herself alone in front of their goalie and does not hesitate, 8-0. In the last seconds of the game one last pass from Elyse to Gillian who tries one last shot on goal, but no luck. A great game ends and we look forward to the next …
Game 2 Walkerton Capitals
Mount forest started of very flat with difficulties in their own end to get the puck from
one stick to the other which resulted in 2 steals and 2 shots but Esther was ready. 2nd line (Allyson, and the Dietz sisters) started out with more aggression and fire in their eyes and they had a good fore checking going and kept the puck in the other end. Meagan was able to fight her way out of the corner with the puck and passed it in front of the net but nobody there. Mount Forest trying to bring, the puck to the Walkerton net instead, of passing, this resulted in a good change for Walkerton luckily Esther is there to stop the puck. Mount Forest on the fore check and Abigail stopped a clearing attempt from Walkerton on the blue line and gave a hard shot, good try no luck. Jenna doing good work at the blue line giving Elyse a change to shoot at the net. The girls need to try something else this goalie is on hot. Mount Forest on the break away but the pass from Abigail is just to short for Gillian to give a shot. Mount Forest pushing for that first goal and all the pucks go to the net and Gillian gets it in.., but with her skate, NO goal (some inside-the van-information, revealed lot tears about that…). There are chances for both teams as they all fight hard. Esther stops another shot from Walkerton and the puck ends up on Elyse’s stick but she doesn’t get far when she spins in the neutral zone. Confusion in the Mount Forest defence giving Walkerton a break away and Elyse skates hard to stop them, she is able to stop the first shot but the puck ends up on another Walkerton stick and this time it’s a goal 0-1.
Mount Forest defence caught flat footed and Walkerton is on the breakaway, another good stop from Esther. Mount Forest is pulling their goalie with 1:13 to go in the game. Mattea gives a good pass from her own net to Elyse on the 2nd blue line but she could not breakaway from the defence. Mount Forest time out to give the girls a breather. Last 45 seconds of the game Mount Forest is trying hard but has difficult time to get the puck on each others stick. It was a great game to watch, GOOD TRY GIRLS!.
Game 3 Wiarton Wild
As we have barely time to sit down the first minute of the game is over and done with and we 1-0 is on the board.
The game continues with Natalee D. bring the puck in, it ends up under her sister who circles on top of it then loses it to for a breakaway of Wiarton, but a quick stick lift and a steel by Avery and the puck is ours again not for long this time as Natalie E. has to fly out of the bench straight towards our net to save the puck from Esther.
Elyse passes it to Meagan who takes the puck in and takes out two Wiarton players on the boards, as the puck ends up with Allyssa who after some good digging gives a hard shot to the Wiarton net.
Gillian and Natalie E. work the puck on the boards too and keep it going towards the net, Danielle forces the play and works herself and the puck to the front of the net, but the goalie puts an end to that. Then some scary moments in our end, Wiarton players are left alone in front of Esther who works hard to get it away from her and a lot of digging done by Allison, gets the puck to Avery and away she goes to score at the other end, 2-0. Elyse thought I can do better and within a minute another goal follows! 3-0.
Then Allyson comes out of the bench straight to the Wiarton blue line and gives it a try to with a good hard shot. Allysa and Avery get together on the defence and make sure the puck gets out of Esthers face.
As the third period start with some confusion who should be on the ice and where, Jenna gets stuck with two Wild Wiarton’s but she handles it with perfection. And as the puck comes along the boards Gillian picks it up makes a great move on the blue line and brings the puck in a good chance is created but not quite finished. As the puck makes its way back to the Mount Forest end, some confusion makes Wiarton taking advantage and the score comes to 3-1.
But the girls keep going and Elyse gives off a great pass right in front, but no one picked it up, the puck gets to Allysa who shows some great defensive action, Meagan gets her legs in a knot, Cali plays hockey on her knees and the whistle goes as Abigail runs herself into the boards. One last attack this period starts with great passing between Elyse and Abigail to Danielle who gives it to Gillian for a shot on net.
As I thought this game was already over, I realized there was one more period to go and another great one to watch. Avery passes the puck to Elyse and a play between her and Abigail brings the puck out in front of the net where Natalie E arms are just to short. Then Abigail shows off with a great hard shot, we know she has, but doesn’t comes to the surface often enough! This time though it comes from the blue line and straight into the net, 4-1.
As the next shift starts out with a move that would make any ballerina and soccer player jealous, Nikki ends up on her back, flapping all four giving Wiarton 2 minutes for tripping, she pushes her luck though by getting her arms up in victory…
Cali, Meagan and Natalie E. set up a nice attack, but the puck comes back into our end for and Natalee D. seems determined to keep the puck in our end instead of out. But as it takes flight Danielle gets after it, passes it to Gillian who passes it back and finishes off firing on the net. This was a great game and hard work by everyone! One more game to come….
Game 4 Consolation Final Owen Sound Ice Hawks
It seemed like the girls needed some extra support and out came a gi-enormous Dog and Rocky did not feel so alone anymore.. As the game gets underway for about 12 seconds Abigail get a 2 minute penalty for body check.
Although right away with a minority of players on the ice the girls are still in control and as Elyse gives a great backhand pass to Natalie E. Avery also good shot and the goalie has to make a quick glove save. Elyse gets another shot going and Natalee D. gets the chance on the rebound.
Danielle works the board but the puck is worked out, Avery picks it up brings it back in and with a great shot makes it 1-0. Of the face off it comes in the Mount Forest end and Esther has to deal with a jumping puck, but is successful.
There are chance on both sides and some very scary moments as the puck stays on the loose in front but Esther is on her toes and Wiarton get nothing in. The game turns around and Abigail is off for a breakaway, but is denied, then Elyse goes for it and as Abigail picks up the rebound the score comes to 2-0.
Abigail and Elyse are on a roll today as they set each other up and keep passing and digging the second period opens with a 3-0.
Then Gillian get on the breakaway and fires of a good shot on the net, Avery tries one too but both girls have no luck this time. Natalee D. gives a great pass to Gillian who shoots and Natalee is there again to pick up the rebound, good play together.
As the shots keep coming to the Owen Sound goalie and she keeps giving rebounds but Mount Forest don’t get them in. The Hawks don’t give up though and as the push hard the get a goal on the second try, 3-1. As Nikki tries her ballerina act again, this time it doesn’t work and get out of our end, with Meagan showing no fear for no one, runs them all in the boards and creates a great chance for Cali who gives a shot net.
In the third period Mount Forest looks a bit tired, but still digging deep as Allyson get the puck out, it comes back in, Esther makes a great stick save the puck goes out is chased back in again and finally iced by Cali for some catching up.
As Avery goes for another breakaway, the goalie has her figured out. Allysa and Danielle go at it on the blue line giving Avery another chance, a great shot just wide, she flies back to be on the defence again, this girl makes miles!.
In the last half minute of the game pucks fly high around Esther and a very hard shot from Owen Sound makes it from the post to Esther and in, 3-2 with 10 seconds on the clock, they pull their goalie but Mount Forest Rams stay strong and have another very successful game in the pocket!
