Dec. 20 Exibition Game against Upper Maitland
Wow! Way to go Girls! You definitely put the "grr" in girls for this game.

I really don't know where to start.

We have a small but mighty "C" team. We took the trek to Kurtzville to play Upper Maitland with eight skaters and Esther our goalie.  We left three at home, one injured, upper body injury, one vacationing and our AP, who thought turkey was more important than hockey. (LOL)

The coaching staff was a little worried when we saw they had 18 skaters. They probably wanted to store some of their players on our bench, as we had a lot of room.

The coaches were in a better mood when the play was in their end for most of the first period. Shot after shot, what a great goalie they have. But what a great practise we had on shooting at the net a few nights before.  Four minutes in the first left and Emily makes a great pass to Brooklynn, (the Clifford Connection) and scores in the top corner.  1-0 for us.  Just over a minute later our Captain takes a shot on the net and Elyse gets the rebound. 2-0.

Into the second period, Abby (the bulldog) gets a body check penalty. Not Good. The girls work hard and we make it through even when Upper Maitland gets a breakaway and PC takes it away by a swing of the stick. A few minutes later Elyse gets a breakaway and scores while listening to coach Donald scream any corner Elyse. She picked the left one. 3-0.

Then diasters strikes. I did not see the call but Emily gets the dreaded CFB, two minutes and the rest of the game. Good old Mac helps the team by going to the box and we can see Emily outside the dressing room with that endless smile. (the other girl was ok). So lets do the math here. Eight skaters, one in the box and another smiling elsewhere. Leaves us with six skaters. What would Eccles do? After an uplifting talk from the coaches we play some hockey.

The girls make through to the third period. Tired faces, running out of water and I can't find a chocolate bar!
Since this is our team not Upper Maitland, I will make this quick. They score two. 3-2. Elyse gets another unassisted goal. 4-2. I think I wrote this before, they score two again. 4-4. At his time I am looking for a bottle and it doesn't have water in it! Two minutes left. Brooklynn makes a pass to Captain Reagan who takes a shot at the net..............stopped by the goalie and Elyse gets the rebound again. 5-4. A minute and a half left what can go wrong? The Bulldog gets into a slashing competition with another girl, both in the box. Still five on five. I swear their clock has two speeds. Game over! 5-4. What a game for both teams.

We are deeply impressed with you girls with the non stop skating, no one complaining. You were there to get the job done and you did it! We have to thank Trish for all her hard work with off ice training, as this is what it produces.
