WOAA Midget Girls Builders Division Consolation Championship
The year end tournament for the WOAA Midget Girls C and House League Teams was held this past weekend (Mar. 25-27) in Goderich. Our own Mount Forest Midget Girl's House League team is the consolation champs of the WOAA Women's Hockey Midget Builder Division!!! Way to go girls!!! This is a second time WOAA year end tournament win for the Mount Forest Girl's House League team -- they won consolation champs back in 2008-09 also.

The first game was Sat. morning against Blyth/Brussels, a C team they had not played at all this year. It was a 1-0 score for Mt. Forest until the dying 42 seconds left of the third period when Blyth/Brussels tied it up! Mt. Forest's captain Danielle Grotenhuis scored our goal with Kaitlin Spahr assisting. The game ended 1-1 and the tie had to be broken so into overtime they went. It was 4 on 4 for the first 5 minute overtime period and it ended without any score. Then it went to 3 on 3 for the next 5 minutes -- still no score. Then into a shootout. The first 3 shooters went and still no score! Then the next group of shooters went and Blyth/Brussels popped in their last one so they won the game and that put Mt. Forest on the consolation side of the tournament.

The second game was Sat. afternoon against Belmore, another C team, and Mt. Forest had played a couple of times in exhibition games during our season. Mt. Forest won 4-2 to send them on to the consolation championship game on Sunday. The first goal for Mt. Forest was an unassisted beauty goal by Carlee Watson. Then Jenna Yake got the next 2 goals in a row. Both of her goals were assisted by Sarah Harman who was playing defence for us on Sat. since we were missing two defence players, Carly McQueen and Steph Penney. The fourth goal was scored by Danielle Grotenhuis and assisted by Kaitlin Spahr.

The third and final game for the consolation championship was on Sunday against the Honeywood C team. Mt. Forest had no idea on what to expect from this team. They had scheduled 3 exhibition games with Honeywood over the season and all three were cancelled due to bad winter weather. Mt. Forest started off the scoring in Period 1 with a goal by Jenna Yake, assisted by Danielle Grotenhuis. The second goal for Mt. Forest was scored by Sarah Harman, assisted by Alex Bye. Next Honeywood popped a goal in. McKenzie Coburn scored assisted by Carlee Watson to make it 3-1 for Mt. Forest at the end of the second period. Honeywood popped another goal in in period three to make it 3-2. Honeywood was putting on the pressure but Mount Forest held out until the end and won the consolation championship!!! Way to go girls -- a great effort all weekend!!! A super weekend of hockey and a perfect way to end our season! Thanks to all of our players this year, Alex Bye, McKenzie Coburn, Lizzie Gerrie, Tamara Green, Danielle Grotenhuis, Sarah Harman, Carly McQueen, Chantel Moore, Lauren Oakes, Steph Penney, Kaitlin Spahr, Carlee Watson, Mikayla Watson, and Jenna Yake. Thanks also to our coaching staff! Sorry coaches that you missed your tournament in Niagara Falls but it was great to have you with us in Goderich!
