Semi Final Action
Our Atom Girls travelled to Brantford this weekend to defend our title at the Walter Gretzky tournament, but this year we moved up from the House League division to the "C" division and made it all the way to the semi finals where we were eventually put out by the Sarnia Sting in a very competitive and close game.

Our tournament action started late Friday afternoon versus the Twin Centre Hericanes.  Our girls were agressive on the puck and really trying to set up some nice plays.  Scoring action started early in the first period for the Rams on a nice feed up the boards from Jayde McRobb to an on the fly Haven LeBlanc who dipsy doodled her way from centre ice to the net and a rifle into the back of the twine!  Our girls played a real defensive battle then holding the Hericanes to a scoreless first and second period. Unfortunately late in the third, the Hericanes took advantage of a bad Rams line change and threw one past Sandra to knot the score at 1.  The Rams tried their best to go ahead in the end, but just couldn't catch a break and the game ended in a 1 all tie.
After a brief dip in the pool and a bite of pizza at the hotel, the girls hit the sack early Friday night in preperation for a 7am game versus Sudbury Lady Wolves.  Our girls started off a little sleepy in this one but started to come alive in the second period and really put some pressure on the Wolves.  After a scoreless first period, the Wolves bit early in the second but not long after that Paige Dowling scored on some ferocious forechecking and a beautiful set up from Ella Black and Chaise McRobb to tie it at 1's.  The score remained tied after two, but somehow the Wolves ended up with 2 more goals in the third to make the final score 3-1.
On to face the Lambeth Lancers in a "do or die" game for a birth to the semi's.  We knew going in that we had to win by at least 2 goals to go on, so a little coach bribery was definately in need.  With a trip to Dairy Queen for a win and a $100 bill for anyone scoring a hat trick, the girls were on a mission!  Taryn North had Coach Kevin shaking in his boots after firing 2 goals past the Lancers goalie in the second.  Unfortunately for Taryn the game ended without a $100 bill but all the girls deserved a pat on the back as they absolutely controlled the game and barely let any shots get through on net.  14 Brownie Oreo Explosions later and we were on our way to the semi's on Sunday morning.
Our semi final action vs Sarnia showcased our girls in top form starting with our defense who did a fabulous job of rushing it up and making some awesome passes to our forwards and our forwards passing to each other and driving to the net time and time again.  Although the ref was a little "whistle happy" in the Sting end, we just couldn't seem to sneak one through, but the score of this game was not indicative of the Rams play, we were definately all over them! The game ended with a 2-0 score and a one way ticket home.
Our girls should be very proud as the Sudbury Lady Wolves ended up tournament Champions on a 5-1 pounding over the Sarnia Sting.  We had real close games with both of these teams, in fact they could have went either way, proving that we were right in there with the competition.  Great job girls!
