Clearview Finalists
The girls travelled to Nottawasaga this past weekend to take part in the Clearview March Madness tournament. The girls came ready to play after the disappointing end to the Silver stick tournament. They still had a bad taste from that tournament so the girls where on a mission from the get go they wanted to win!!!
The first game was against the Peterborough Ice Kats, the game was scoreless until the 2nd period when Chaise got us on the board with a behind the back pass through ( or maybe by accident pass from Bailey and Alyssa V. 2nd Goal Hailey makes a nice rush and buries it, the third goal is Hailey from Lexi R and Jaime . The fourth goal and seals the game is from Ella.
The 2nd game is early Saturday morning with the 7:30 start so the girls where told no beer or late night partying, with some under the breath comments about wanting to do some shooters they agreed! The game started a bit slow probably due to most of the kids just waking up, the girls knew they where going to have to battle hard with Bailey out with a thumb injury, Hailey got us on the board from Chloe & Lexi W. 2nd goal Hailey from Lexi W and Chaise on the power play. Ella gets the third from Lexi R and Chaise, The girls have it in there head they need to run up the score in case of a tie breaker format like the silver stick so we don't go home so they keep pouring it on. Chaise breaks in with a feed from Alyssa V 4-0 . Not to be outdone Hailey Scores top shelf,assisted by Jamie, that's a HAT Trick and if the arena wasn't so cold I,m sure the hats would of been flying on the ice.
The third game against Kemptville this should be a good game we where told to watch out for this team as they are looking very strong, with both teams tied in points with 4 the its a battle for first in the standing and only the top 2 teams advance to the finals. The scouts didn't lie the Kemptville team came out flying but our goalie who had yet to surrender a goal this tournament stood her ground. With 3.03 left in the 1st Hailey gets a goal with Chloe hitting her with a great pass from the boards. Uh oh Kemptville battles back and ties the game 1-1 yikes the pressure mounts. On to the 2nd period with the girls fighting for possession of the puck in front of the net Chloe buries it 2-1 the fans erupt. As the game carries on it is a heck of a hockey game and neither team is backing down and the refs have put the whistle away and are letting them play. Whoever thinks there isn't hitting in girls hockey is wrong you better come watch a game, because these two teams are putting on a clinic. Into the third we go the puck come loose in the slot and Hailey with out even looking turns and fires it on the net and catches the goalie by surprise 3-1. But that doesn't stop the kemptville team they keep coming on strong, but our defense was there to answer the call. Jamie, Jordyn, Lexi W, Alyssa V, & Shea played as well this weekend as I have ever seen them play, good job girls. Final score 3-1 but that was probably one of the best games I have seen an atom girls team play and I mean both teams the compete level was off the charts.
The fourth game was an early start Sunday morning so early bedtime again, do these organizers not realize us parents do a lot of strategy and planning late at night to take the stress off!. The final game we sit in 1st place know thanks to being 3-0 with 6 points. Kincardine is the next game and every game with them has been a tough match they are a good skating team and don't quite. But like I said earlier these girls are on a mission. So being the coach I resort to bribery if the girls can win this game and make it to the finals and keep playing like they have been the coach makes the bet with the girls "Dairy Queen" well talk about getting 14 girls to wake up instantly it's on. Chaise gets us started 1-0 from Ella, Lexi R, the 2nd goal comes from Bruiser Brianna A parked in her spot in front of the net and pots the rebound from Alyssa V . Ella seals the game with a nice shot from Chaise and Jordyn. Where off to the finals the girls are pumped. The girls finished the round robin play with 15 goals for and 1 against a stat the coaching staff are very pleased with as the girls have bought into our team defense wins. I think team Canada has been scouting us and look at there results!
Kemptville awaits with both teams knowing what kind of game this is even the girls where quite and focused , Kemptville isn't use to losing as they have only lost a couple games all season this was new to them. They came at us hard in the first period Kemptville shoots and Brianna G stops the puck between her and the goal post, ref blows the whistle and then decides to call it a goal after she stands up and the whistle had went, WhAT THE HELL. He comes to the bench and says it was in put he couldn't see it, I'm not positive but if you don't see it go in and the whistle has went it should be no goal, i guess i was wrong 1-0 Kemptville. The girls did't get discouraged and kept battling Hailey breaks in and rings it off the cross bar. No sooner did this happen when Kemptville gets a break and puts them up 2-0. By no means where we out of it yet the girls kept fighting back and Lexi R gets us to with in 1 goal from Ella & Jamie. With only minutes to play we pulled the goalie for the extra attacker it was all out pandemonium on the ice this was so exciting even the teenagers stopped texting to watch!. with 20seconds of goal mouth scramble we just couldn't bury it. With 20 seconds left we called a timeout the coaches went over the face off play the kids know what to do, as they turn to leave Ella turns around for 1 quick question "are we still going to Dairy Queen" and she was serious. The buzzer rang and we just couldn't get the tying goal but it was not for lack of effort just a really good Kemptville team, congratulations to you guys on a hard fought victory. The girls played better this tournament than i have seen all year what a team this is turning out to be. There where some sad faces in the dressing room that we didn't win but within the hour all the girls where smiling big, as they goobled down ice cream at Dairy Queen, I didn't dare re nag on that bet or I would of had 14 girls chasing me down with hockey sticks!!!!
