After 63 games the Mount Forest
Midget B Girls hockey team have had a fantastic season thus far but it’s far
from over.
The girls recently won their third tournament of the season at the Madness in the Valley tournament on March 1st in Alliston. With the skates a little rusty the girls got off to a slow start as they lost 1-0 to the Clearview Ice Cats. Saturday they played three games beating Oakville 4-0, Woolwich 3-0 and Thessalon 4-0. On Sunday Mount Forest beat Thessalon 3-2 in the Championship game.
After a 22 game regular game season, the girls finished first in their loop to claim the title of Lower Lakes Western division league champs.
The Lower Lake quarter finals saw the Rams matched up against the 8th place Waterloo Ravens. Mount Forest squeaked by with a 2-1 and 3-1 win. In the semifinals Blyth/Brussels claimed the first game winning 2-0. Mount Forest responded with a 1-0 win and a 2-1 overtime victory to advance to the finals against Mitchell. Mount Forest again lost the first game of the series 2-0. Playing some of their best hockey of the season, Mount Forest dominated game two producing a 4-1 triumph. Game three was a nail biter as neither team managed to get on the scoreboard during regular play. Almost seven minutes into overtime, Mount Forest found the back on the net to take the title of Lower Lakes Western Division Champions. The girls will travel to Oshawa on March 27th and 28th to participate in the LLFHL Championship Weekend Tournament.
For Provincial Playdowns, Mount Forest was in a loop with four other teams. Each team played a home and away game with the top two teams advancing to the OWHA Provincials on April 10th, 11th & 12th in Mississauga. The Rams tied Caledon 0-0 and 1-1 and defeated Grand River 4-0 and 2-0, Orangeville 4-0 and 7-0 and North Halton 6-0 and 5-1. Mount Forest finished in first place, just one point ahead of Caledon.
