Rams learn tough lesson at Silver Stick
By Christine Rivet
SAUGEEN SHORES - The Mount Forest Rams came out flat in their opener but at least gained momentum at the Caitlyn Cobean Memorial Silver Stick Tournament over the weekend.

After falling 4-2 to Owen Sound in their opening-day clunker on Friday, the Bantam C Rams slowly improved later that day but again succumbed to Mitchell 2-1.

"Sometimes, you take a team you've beaten handily before for granted. That's what we did in our opener," said assistant coach Christine R. "It's a tough lesson to learn but an important lesson just the same."

It wasn't exactly the result the girls wanted.  But the Rams at least showed their supporters what they are made of with a gutsy effort in their final game, a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the tourney's eventual champs, Brussels-Clinton-Hensal, on Saturday night.

With a renewed focus on accountability and on-ice responsibilities thanks to an extremely useful team meeting chaired by assistant coach/trainer Mandi F., the Rams got their groove back.

"That was the team we know we are. We could've folded our tent after two tough losses. But we were all over BCH, buzzing around their net throughout. The puck was hardly in our end at all," said the assistant coach.

"Sometimes, it's just about puck luck. We'll just keep working hard in practices and games and the results are sure to follow."

The Rams finished with an 0-3 record in the tournament and are eager to get back in the win column when they face West Grey on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Clifford.

But first, they'll take to the ice for practice on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. in Mount Forest.

Over the weekend, Hayley G. paced the Rams with a goal and an assist. Morgan F. had two assists. Chloe K., Peyton M., and Emily A. scored one goal apiece. Olivia S. had one assist.
