Bantam Girls Rams HL tie tournament champions in 16 team challenge

The Rams headed to Milton this weekend for the first tournament of the season. The girls were apprehensive after a tough season start but in good spirits as they hit the ice for their first game versus Port Colburn Saturday morning.
Port colbourne jumped on attack early with the second face off in the MF end. An impressive wrister off the right point arched over traffic and goalie Sandra to put PC in the lead just two minutes into the first. The counterattacks escalated to and fro with the officials obviously emphasizing game flo over discipline as the game got physical. PC has advantage most of the game but Sandra staves off the two dozen shots. Late in the third a rebound from Evelyn's last Rush was pushed past the goaline by the rusher herself with the help of a little defender takeout by center Avery Mills to tie the game.
Rams go short handed as Rachel takes a sacrifice body checking penalty but hold off the PC offence to end the game 1-1.
PC leaves the ice dispirited but takes time to acknowledge the little goalie from MF.
Game two against North Halton showed the Rams at their best with our wingers getting well earned chances and the defence consistently turning the play back up the ice. Goal two to Rachel assisted by Laeney and a hat trick to the captain leave the final score 4-2 over the host team and needing a final win next game to advance.
Game three against the solid Burlington predators just off a 1-0 loss to the PC opponents of the morning.
Captain Evelyn starts the scoring with a nice feed from Holly and Brooke early in the first.
With the captains line matched the two teams fight for scoring chances with Burlington finally tapping in a loose puck from a full crease sprawl late in the second to tie. In an entertaining show of competition the  captains take matching  defensive penalties against each other but late in the third Burlington slips a game winner past Sanda to end the tourney for the Rams.
An entertaining and tiring day for the girls but tying the eventual tournament winners PColborne
shows that our team is starting to play up to an impressive level with more sure to come.
