OWHA PROVINCIALS
The Atom girls travelled to Mississauga this past weekend to participate in the provincials. There was a total of 16 teams from all over Ontario split in to 4 pools for round robin play, all with the hopes of bringing home a medal.

The girls first game on Friday was against the Ottawa Valley Thunder who they had previously tangled with in an overtime loss at the Silver Stick. The Rams came to play from the outset and led 2-1 going in to the 3rd period, but our girls couldn't keep the Thunder from knotching 2 quick goals early in the period to give up the lead. Unfortunately with their goalie pulled they couldn't get any offense going and surrendered 2 empty net goals to fall 5-2. The score by no means indicated how well the girls played despite the final score.
Game 2 later Friday afternoon was a must win versus the Timmins Falcons. The girls played very well in this game also and early in the first frame Megan P. would score to give the Rams the lead but just minutes later Timmins would even it up 1-1 and it would remain that way till the 3rd period. The girls kept the pressure on and midway through the 3rd Gillian D. would give the Lady Rams the lead and with 2:38 remaining Natalie W. would add an insurance marker and the Rams skated away with a well deserved 3-1 win.
Game 3 on Saturday was against Mooretown with the girls needing a win to advance to the quarter finals. This game would remain scoreless for the first two periods with no real scoring threats from either team. Mooretown kept the pressure on the girls in the third and a fortuitous high rainbow of a shot would find the back of our net to give them the lead. Then 5 minutes later another unfortunate bounce of the puck would give the opposition a second goal. Mt. Forest would pull their goalie with 2 minutes left but just couldn't get any puck through to the net and would fall 2-0 in the contest thus ending their run in the tournament. You girls played hard and gave it everything you had, be proud and hold your heads high!
This season has come to an end but many good things can be taken away from the season these girls had. Although the girls may not have posted as many wins as liked in the regular season they can be proud of holding their own against much larger centres in the Lower Lakes B loop. Outside of Provincials the girls entered 4 tournaments and reached the finals in each and every one. They won their very own Mt. Forest Girls Classic and and took home Silver in the other 3 most notably the Silver Stick. The girls have come a long way since that first week of September. Each and everyone of you has improved and should be proud of the way you represented your team and the town of Mt. Forest. WELL DONE GIRLS!!
