The Peewee Rams travelled to York University this weekend to take part in the LLFHL Championship weekend.  The girls knew before getting here that every game was going to be a battle as this tournament is dubbed "The Best of the Best".

Game 1; the girls were to take on the Peterborough Ice Cats but due to ice problems there was an hour and half time delay.  The girls came out of the gate a little flat and played to a tight first period.  Finally, Lexi Rice, with her first of three for the game got us on the board.  The game ended 4/1 with helpers going to Alyssa Aitken (2), Brynne Tangney & Kate Crispin.

Game 2; against our West Division Rivals, the Walkerton Capitals.  As always, this was a tight game.  Back and forth it was with Brianna Gordon holding down the fort for the Rams and the Walkerton tender matching her save for save.  But with 3 minutes left in the game, Chaise McRobb would intercept a Walkerton clearing pass and buried the game winner. Final score 1-0 Rams.

Game 3; against the winner of the East division, the undefeated Bancroft Jets.  This was a battle to see which team was going to post their first loss of the season.  First period was played to a 0-0 draw as each team was feeling each other out.  Midway through the second, Chaise buried one low in the corner to make it 1-0.  Third period Chaise breaks through the D and buries her second of the game to make it 2-0 for the Rams.  Rams goalie Brianna Gordon played her best game of the season coming up with several big saves on the Bancroft shooters but they were no match for the Rams. Final score 2-0.

With 6 out of a possible 6 points, this win guaranteed the Rams a spot to play in the Championship game.  The only question was who they would be facing as Walkerton and Bancroft had identical records in the tournament which forced a tie breaker format of goals for minus goals against and Walkerton snuck through on goal differential.

The Championship game is against Walkerton who we've faced in 2 previous Championship situations this season, so the girls knew Walkerton would come out of the gates flying as they would be looking for some redemption.  But our Rams matched them stride for stride as our girls were looking to become LLFHL repeat champions.  With time winding down in the first period, Bailey Hodgins buried a Brynne Tangney rebound a split second before the buzzer.  This would prove to be the game winner as Walkerton had our girls on their heels for much of the third but could not get a tying goal.

The entire tournament was a defensive battle and every girl dug deep, back checked hard and played defense first hockey.  This was a complete team effort this weekend with EVERY girl contributing in some way.
