Rams go down swinging at WOAA tournament
DURHAM – The short-staffed Mount Forest bantam Rams suffered back-to-back defeats, ending their run at the year-end WOAA tournament on Saturday.

The Rams succumbed 2-0 to the South Bruce Blades and then fell 2-1 to the Kincardine Kinucks in an evening game.

“Our girls gave us everything they had. And we got really close to tying things up with Kincardine in the late going, but we just couldn’t buy a break today,” said Rams coach Bill W.

The Rams went without two of their top three scorers on Saturday due to injury.

For a team with just 12 skaters, their absence was palpable, said the coach, whose squad outshot the Kinucks by a three-to-one ratio and kept their opponents hemmed inside their end for much of the game, peppering the Kincardine goalie and forcing her to make save after save.

Shea M. scored the Rams’ late-game goal with the extra attacker in the Kincardine game.

“Tough to swallow,” said the Rams coach. “But some of our other girls got some real valuable playing experience this weekend in key situations. We can use that to our advance at next weekend’s provincials.

“And we won’t forget how hard our girls worked and how we put it all together in spurts -- definitely, something to build on for our final weekend.”

In earlier action at the four-team event, the Rams disposed of the Chatsworth Township Rebels 2-1 on Friday night.
