Silver Medalist Midget B OWHA 2017

CONGRATULATIONS  SILVER GIRLS YOU WERE AMAZING!!!

Starting the tournament without Jenna, Jordan and Addie, who where representing the Rams at the Vimy Ridge memorial in France, all the pressure was on the rest of the girls.

From your coaches Charles and Walther:

On Friday, Kapuskasing was the first team, this was a solid, good passing and fast team, the Rams were taken by surprise and came up short with a loss, 4-0.

The next team they faced where the Wilmot Wolverines and with a tie and a loss in exhibition games, the girls had to step up to the plate, which they did in glorious fashion to come out with a 5-1 win. Dani had a goal and three assists, Hayley a goal and Gillian with a hat trick and an assist.
This game set the tone for the rest of the tournament and it must be said your assistant captains, Gillian and Dani were true leaders on and off the ice, their determination to do well at provincials rubbed off on the rest of the team.

On saturday, Durham West Lightning was the team to beat first, the girls played a solid game and came out victorious 6-0, with goals from Chelsea, Dani, Gillian and Hayley and great assists from our solid defence pair Hanna and Jasmine, and a 2nd place in our Poole was enough to go to the next round.

That afternoon the Sarnia Lady Sting was the next opponent to beat if they wanted to get into the quarter finals and it was a battle for sure 0-0 after regulation, this game was decided with a hint of sweet revenge by Taylor as her breakaway shot still rings in our ears and the cheers that followed after her overtime winning goal with 7 min into OT.

In the quarter finals they faced the Bancroft Jets and again a 0-0 made that another OT was needed, with 56 seconds to go the nail biter ended as Hayley scored the winning goal as she batted it out of the air on a rebound from Dani and Gillian and they paved the way to the semi finals sunday morning.

Now they had been there before, last year as they broke the "quarter final curse" but lost the battle in the semis and came home with the Bronze. They needed to do better this year!

It turned out to be another nail biter, by this time all our nerves had raw open endings and it was a hard fought game against the Cambridge Roadrunners on the other side of the ice. The Rams were ready, scoring went back and forth 2-2 tie after regulation, with goals from Dani and Olivia. But the Rams were the most experienced OT team by that time in the tournament and you know what happened next...another curse broken and a place in the final was secured 8 min in, as Kyla scored a great overtime goal.

The game for the gold was a meeting with their first opponent of the tournament, the Kapuskasing Jaguars and after 6 games with the last 3 that went into OT, the tank was empty, the Rams tried but where no match for the fast passing Jaguars, never the less they put up a good fight and the Mount Forest Midget B Girls went home with a wonderful Silver Medal with a 3-0 loss that never felt like a loss to anyone!

You girls left everything on the ice and the coaching staff could not be more proud how you girls all represented the Rams.

A wonderful heartfelt Thanks to all the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends for bringing a love to the games and a solid support to the girls their whole year!

It was a amazing weekend. Going in without three veteran players the rest of the players had to step it up. The team came together on and off the ice. Everyone played as a team, making extra efforts for success by driving to the net harder, getting more shots and some great goal tending making saves that could have been game changers.

and from Julie:

It's been a honor spending three midget years with Charles and Walther, achieving many tournament banners, a silverstick gold medal, a LLHL division championship, a Best of the Best Lower Lakes bronze medal, a Provincial B bronze and now a Provincial B silver medal.
Thanks for your wisdom, your support, your time, humor and most of all your patience. With a room full of emotional, temperamental teenage girls, it takes some special coaches and you guys nail it.
