PROVINCIAL BRONZE MEDALIST

The Lady Rams travelled to Toronto this past weekend to tangle with the very best teams in the province for a Provincial Medal.

Pool play got underway Friday morning at 8:15 for the girls as they squared off against Toronto in game 1. After surrendering an early goal only 1:20 seconds in to the first, the girls dominated the entire rest of the game and walked away with a 3-1 victory. Game 2 later that day would see our girls take on the Timmins Falcons. Just like the first game our girls would give up an early lead only 35 seconds in to the first but after settling down they controlled the remainder of the game and skated to a 3-2 win. Game 3 was another early start at 8:00 Saturday morning versus the Aurora Panthers. Our Rams proved to be too much for their opponents with their aggressive play as the game would end in a 2-0 win for our girls. This was the start the girls needed to get a bye in to the quarter finals Saturday night as the #3 seed to avoid the Saturday afternoon tie-breakers.
The quarters would see the girls face-off against league rival Cambridge for a spot in the semi-finals Sunday morning. The intensity level for this game was at an ultimate high as both teams knew what was at stake. Aggressive fore-checking along with a will to keep this season alive resulted in a well deserved 3-0 win and a birth in Sunday's semi-final.
It was another early start Sunday morning for the semi-final at 8:00 versus the Ottawa Valley Thunder for a spot in the gold medal game. This game would see the Lady Rams simply pepper the opposing goalie with shots that must have made her feel like a pin cushion. Unfortunately we couldn't get one to go past the goal line and with just 2.9 seconds left in regulation Ottawa would convert on a mad scramble in front of our net. This 1-0 loss was a tough one as we out chanced and played them but that's hockey sometimes. Even though we didn't get a spot in the gold final we still had the opportunity for the Bronze later that day.
Now it was time to re-group and get ready to take on Waterloo another regular season rival in the Bronze Medal game at 12:30. This game was well played by both teams from the start as was every game we had all year. Our girls got on the scoreboard in the first and would keep the 1-0 lead heading in to the second. Waterloo would even things up part way through the second at 1-1 but the Lady Rams would regain the lead late in the period to head in to intermission with a 2-1 lead. The 3rd period featured some great hockey by both teams and with tired legs from everyone giving it their absolute best effort. Finally we would hear the final buzzer and YES it was a 2-1 win for our PeeWee B girls.
What a year it was for this group of young ladies, memories and friendships to last a lifetime. This group of 14 gave it everything they had and to see the smiles on their faces throughout the year was rewarding enough for myself as their coach. The success started early and carried on for the entire season for these players. Tournament victories in Mitchell, Mt. Forest and semi-finals at the Silver Stick in January which was their first loss. Undefeated in the regular season 20-0-2 and play-off finalist compiling a 45-6-7 record throughout the year. Truly a magnificent year for the team as well as parents and to cap it all off with a BRONZE MEDAL at Provincials is the icing on the cake.
It was a priviledge to coach these girls and watch them have success and fun throughtout the year. Well done girls you are the 2018 PeeWee B Provincial Bronze Medalist!!!!!
