Orangeville Sweetheart Tournament Championship Winners!!
Submitted By Derek Bridgwater on Sunday, January 30, 2011
We are on a roll!

One tourney at a time. Championship winners in Mitchell. Finalist`s in Stratford and now Championship winners in Orangeville.

Hard work, speed, discipline, passion and for the love of the game does it every time.

OK, game one Friday afternoon, girls get out of school again. We have our full team. We meet up with Markham Stouffville again (Statford Tourney) 8 to 2 for us. Elyse gets a hat trick, and I believe everyone else on the team gets a point. Good warm up.

After a nice team meal together at Kelseys, (Dale you owe me for the spinach dip!) We head over to the Alder arena to meet up with Kincardine. 6 to 2 for us. Jen gets the hat trick, and 8 players get the points. TJ`s first shut out of the tourney.

A 4:30 game time on Saturday for a battle against Niagara. 3 to 0 for us. Three goals in the first period. Shut out number two for TJ.

A quick meal and no running around to play Twin Centre for 7:30pm. We have played this team several times and have come out on top each time. But the scores have been closer and closer each game. This was a great game, evenly matched and ends with a tie, of two each. Jen scoring both goals. The parents have thier computers out after the game and figure if we keep it up we will play them in the finals.  Staight home to bed as we have an early game Sunday morning.

7:30 am in Oville. Trying to get the girls going is a very tough time for us, we are not a morning team. We meet up with Clearview, never played them before. 3 to 0 for us. TJ`s third shut out.

After a great breakfast at Angels, we have no stories for you. The girls are very polite and we can go back anytime. 11:30 game start for Oville. Top of thier division as we were at that time. What a battle. We know we have to play them in Provincial playdowns starting next week. They came out hammering our players. Our girls kept their cool and out skated them. They were ahead and we would catch up. It was good experience to play a team like that we learned alot and will be ready for them.  Games ends in a tie, 3 to 3. They needed to beat us to move on, unsucessful, we go on to the final game.

We try to keep the girls grounded and relaxed. We meet up with the Atom girls in their Championship game. It was nice to see the girls support the Atoms. What a great game and kudo`s to them. Girls hockey in Mount Forest is strong.  We leave very quickly, after the shoot out, to go to our final game agaist Twin Centres.

This was the best game played at the tourney. First period ends in a tie with Jen scoring assisted by PC. Most of the game down at their end many shots missing the net. Second period 3 to 1. We just need to play defencively to take the game. They score 3 to 2 in the third. Back and forth and a bunch of penalities, we score again!
Game over, 4 to 2 Rams win. A great game, girls picked it up and played thier hearts out!

I believe Coach Donald was crying, he said it was allergies. A very long weekend but well worth it. We end our regular season 28, 6, 7.  We have to thank the girls parents for their support and encouragement, to make a great team.

This weekend off to Sarnia for the Silverstick.....stay tuned!
