March madness Champs
The girls went to Clearview this past weekend and came home with gold medals around there necks and in doing this they really showed how good they can be with 4 games and 4 shutouts the team just shut the door on the opposition and when they did get a shot Brianna G stood tall.
The first game of the tournament we matched up against Zorra Fuzion the game started out a little slow for our girls as it was a morning game and our girls are not morning girls at all! So after the 1st we are tied 0-0 but into the 2nd we broke loose and Chaise breaks out for 4 goals Tori gets 1 and assists go to Tori, Chaise, Alyssa, Lexi W, & Lexi R final score 5-0. Game MVP was Chaise.
2nd game we face off against Peterborough Ice Kats this is a B team and the girls know we are in for a battle against the higher division team , this was a very hard fought game both ways . But our girls definitely outplayed them with having quite a big shot advantage they have a very good goaltender who stood tall for them, late in the 3rd on the power play we get the game breaker at 6:35 Jordyn passes to Chaise who burns down the wing and then roofs it from the hash marks to put us in the lead 1-0. The team is pumped and know all they have to do is keep the puck away from our net and the defence Lexi W, Jordyn, Bailey and Brianna stood tall and nobody got near Brianna G who picked up her 2nd shut out of the weekend. 3rd game is Stratford and if we win the girls are in the finals so the coach Kevin goes into his bag of tricks and tells the girls if they can win this and the next game he treats them all to Dairy Queen. Well that's all it took to motivate this group it's just like dangling a carrot in front of a horse. Final score 2-0 and what a game the entire group played every girl on that bench skated her butt off it was the first time this season the coaches never had to yell "SKATE" they just did it. Chaise got 2 goals 1 from Lexi R and Alyssa and to top of her 3rd shut out Brianna G gets the assist on the 2nd goal. Wow shut out and a assist not bad goalie! all she needed was a penalty for the Gordie Howe hat trick. Game MVP was Jordyn
The Finals after the round robin play we are pitted against the 2nd place teams which just so happens to be Stratford the team we just beat the day before. So the girls know they will be in for a tough match again, before the game the coaches go over the basics keep your stick on the ice well they finally listened and in the 2nd Megan buries a big juicy rebound just skating by the net with her stick on the ice 1-0 the girls can taste DQ. This was a very good game Stratford wasn't giving an inch and kept pouring it on but once again the rams defense stood tall and in the 3rd Chaise just directs the puck towards the net and with a flick of the wrist Alysaa tucks it past the goalie 2-0. Megan gets the game MVP Brianna G gets her fourth shut out of the tournament wow what an accomplishment for her and the defense. As the girls stood on the blue line for there medals a chant broke out amongst them DQ DQ DQ these girls are like there mothers they don't forget a thing! But the best part of this weekend is when we got to the dressing room and we had 1 medal left over and 1 of the girls asked if we could give it to Granpa Bill the teams # 1 fan . This was one of the nicest things I have ever seen a group of young kids do was present him with a medal they may be fierce on the ice but they all have hearts made of gold! Congratulations girls
