Rams put finishing touches on solid regular season
By Christine Rivet
CHATSWORTH – Team captain Haven L. potted the game’s only goal to pace her Mount Forest bantam C Rams to a tidy 1-0 victory over the Chatsworth Township Rebels on Friday night.

The Mount Forest C girls battened down the hatches defensively in their WOAA regular-season finale as Haven scored her 20th goal of the season on a determined second-period rush.

“It was great to see all our girls – up and down the lineup – contribute to this win,” said Rams coach Bill Walker. “We looked like our old selves out there – playing smart in our own end and fighting for pucks in the offensive zone.

“We will need the whole team going like that the rest of the way.”

Also Friday, Rams netminder Alyssa V. posted her 24th shutout of the campaign, steering aside 10 shots on the night.

The Rams completed their regular schedule with an impressive 11-2-3 (won-lost-tied) record.

The Mount Forest girls led the league this season in winning percentage at .781. The Rams also allowed the fewest goals against in the loop, 10 total - fewer than one goal per game.

“We preached defence all year because when you get to big games and big tournaments those details will make the difference,” said the coach. “We were pretty much in control in our own end (Friday). Our girls can take great pride in our team defence.”

The Rams hit the ice Monday for practice at 6:30 p.m. in Clifford in preparation for the Leaside tournament on March 10-12.
