Midget HL Girls start with a win
The Midget HL Girls hosted the Normanby Midgets Sunday night for their season opener.
MoFo opened the scoring at 4:51 with lots of pressure on the net; defence Bobbi Jo Patterson kept the puck in the opposition zone, Stephanie Penney shot on the net and Jenna Yake picked up the rebound for the first marker. 2 minutes into the second Yake tipped a blistering Mikayla Watson shot from the point for the second goal. Yake finished her natural hattrick with help from Penney and Tatiana Felsbourg. Penney than added her own goal with 2 minutes left in the game with Yake and Felsbourg assisting. Solid in the net for MoFo was Laura Rumph; defence pairs of Watson and Patterson; Carly McQueen and Lauren Oakes made sure Rumph didn't get overworked. The young line of Danielle Grotenhuis, Lizzie Gerrie and Deanna Hieber put together some pretty passing plays but just couldn't find the twine.
It was an impressive start for a team ranging in age from 12 to 18 - they played awesome together to earn the 4-0 win.
