Midget HL Girls squeeze out a win over Arran-Elderslie
Midget HL Girls travelled to Chesley to take on the Arran Elderslie Rep team for an exhibition match. The MoFo Girls worked hard against a team that outnumbered and outsized them. Laura Rumph stopped more rubber in net than she would see in a month of practices while the defence did all they could to stop the Home team from running her too hard.
The game was at a grid lock until 25 seconds left in the first when Jenna Yake ripped a shot passed the A-E goalie on a feed from Tatiana Felsbourg and Deanna Heiber. The second period saw lots of action in the MoFo end but Rumph was sizzling hot and wasn't letting anything by. The third period saw the MoFo girls come out stronger than the previous two periods and they were able to keep more of the action in the A-E end. A-E manage to get the puck to trickle over the goal line with a lucky bounce off Rumph's shoulder to tie it up at 5.54. The MoFo girls didn't let that get them down and Yake performed a nice wrap to regain the lead; Felsbourg tallied another assist as well as Amber Duncan with great work behind the net. The Rams held on even when they were down a player in the last two minutes and got to taste sweet victory. The defence duos of Bobbie Jo Patterson and Mikayla Watson; Carly McQueen and Raegan Elliot held their ground and their cool while frustrating the home team. The team figured out that what coach Garn has been teaching in practice really does work in a game and it was great to see them work the plan. The game ended with cheers from the MoFo bench of 'Laura - Laura - Laura' just to show how much they appreciate her strong goaltending.
