Novice Reps Win at South Huron Tournament
This past weekend the Rams travelled to South Huron to take part in a one day tournament.  The first game for Mount Forest saw them take on the undefeated South Huron Sabres.

In the first period the Rams and South Huron traded goals a couple of times – but the game swung to the Sabres side in the second with three unanswered goals making it 5-2.

True to the teams never say die attitude, the Rams stormed back in the 3rd period.  Goalie Jacksen MacKenzie shut door the rest of the way with help from defensemen Jake Kleinstuber, Owen Moyer, Brayden Darroch and Luke Eurig.  The forwards provided strong two way play with William Black and Gavyn Stevenson leading the way.  Black scored unassisted and then on a nice pass from Stevenson – Black completed his hat trick with a backhand under the crossbar bringing Mount Forest within one with 37 seconds left to play.  However, the Reps ran out of time and fell 5-4.

Mount Forest then took on the St.Mary’s Rock.  With no goals scored until the second period it was the Rock who got on the board first but the Rams quickly replied less than a minute later.

Then in the third period the line of Patrick Brown, Brody Leblanc and Evan Dewar clicked with Leblanc setting up Dewar to put the Reps up 2-1.  The Rams extended their lead to 3-1 with Black assisting on Stevenson’s second of the game.  The Rock found the net once more but that’s all they would get with Mount Forest winning 3-2.

The win put the Rams into the B finals for a rematch against the St.Mary’s Rock.

The Reps saved their best performance for the championship game.  Owen Troyer started the scoring in the first, followed by two more goals by Black before the periods end.

In the second St.Mary’s scored twice pulling them within one, but Stevenson replied for the Rams making it 4-2.  The Rock again scored at the 3:52 mark of the second, but with Black scoring followed by Leblanc setting up Dewar it pushed the Rams lead to 6-3 heading into the third.

The Reps poured it on – Dewar scored his second assisted by Brown and Eurig – then Black found the back of the net from Stevenson and Troyer.  Finally, Leblanc finished a nice rush from Eurig, wristing a shot past the Rock goaltender.

With smart puck movement and strong team play the Mount Forest Rams had a successful tournament ending with a 9-3 victory – winning the B side of the South Huron Tournament.

Congratulations Rams!
