Rams Rattle the Sabres!
The Atom Rams met the Wallace Sabres on home ice Sunday, January 9. The victory creates a sense of optimism as the Rams head into the Gretzky Tournament this coming weekend!
First period action saw Eli McCook, on a breakaway, open the scoring 3 minutes into the game. With 32 seconds remaining the Sabres retaliated, and the game's rhythm was set for the battle that continued through to the finish.
With the score tied at the top of the second, the Sabres came on strong, and in spite of goalie Rourke Elliot's amazing performance, managed to put one in. The Rams doubled their efforts, and Cole Whitten, with 3 minutes remaining, threw in the tying goal.
Third period action saw McCook, assisted by defenceman Tanner Gordon, break the tie. Score 3-2 Rams with ten minutes left in the game. But the Sabres rattled, and tied it up again with 5 minutes left on the clock. Winger Nathan Zeinstra regrouped, and produced the Rams fourth goal, only to see the Sabres tie it up again, 4-4. With three minutes remaining, the Rams poured on the offence. Austin Mallot, assisted by McCook, threw in the winning goal for a 5-4 victory for the Rams!
