As always before the game started, there was a skills competition, which featured the fastest skater, the hardest shot and there were points to win for accuracy. The girls who tried their best were Jenna, Natalee, Erica, Danielle, Jordyn and Kaithlyn.
As the game barely got underway the first penalty was in and Matthea spend two minutes relaxing as she quite effectively managed to keep the puck going, behind her own net, using her body. That kept the rest off the girls on their toes and the worked hard to keep that puck out, but Meagan needed warming up as well and she had to go deep down, twice.
A quick shift change and Jordyn takes the puck into the other end but has no luck getting the puck in the net. Danielle and Natalee get the puck from Gillian as they skated from their end, they don’t get far but keep fighting and the shot gets intercepted by the rebels. As the puck makes it way back into the Mount Forest end, Jenna gets a hold of it and uses the boards to get it out, Danielle intercepts and with a great breakaway goes for the other end. Matthea and Natalee, pass the puck to Jordyn but it keeps coming back and ends in an icing for the Rams.
As the game gets going again, Brittany and Danielle help Gillian, who gets in front of the net and finds the five-hole, 1-0 on the board and the first goal of the season is a fact. Right away they get going again and with a beauty of a pass from Danielle, Gillian gets of another shot that echos on the post.
Jordyn is on a role and works herself through a herd of blue, but her shot is stopped, the Rams keep pushing and more attacks follow as Natalee passes the puck to Jordyn and Matthea shows some nice moves as she comes from behind and with a very hard shot that again bounces back of that goal post, that doesn’t want to move! The last seconds of the first period tick away.
The seconds period starts off as Erica works hard and brings the puck into the Rebels end and it ends up in front of the net, where Gillian got another chance, but seriously misses a one timer.
As the next 5 minutes gets more whistles for icing it is clear that the girls have to work on their confidence to bring the puck up out of their end and Cali must have heard that thought as she brings it out nicely, Jordyn picks it up and makes her way down the ice and finish in full flight with a great shot that just barely misses the peanut butter jar.
But a three on two catches the girls in white of guard and the puck disappears underneath Meagan to make it 1-1. Erica and Danielle don’t give up and work nice together for other chances, Matthea shows good defensive work and and gets Erica going for a breakaway which she finishes with a shot that only just missed the net. Kaithlyn gets a pass and goes for the net, also a great setup from Danielle, Erica and Jordyn. In the last seconds of the second period, Meagan gets a scare as a the shots keep coming at her, but she keeps the door shut.
As the Brown Family won the 50/50 draw it was clear that there must have been some “divine intervention....!”between periods.
The game gets underway again the Rams the girls start pushing again and shots are getting towards the rebels and chances are being created, but still it is obvious that they have work on getting that puck out of their end and when it finally happens, Jordyn finds herself alone with to nowhere to pass in between lots of blue players. But help is coming and Kaithlyn gets the shot of and almost makes it in. Some bizarre moments after that as the puck lies still for many, many seconds on the goal line, nobody sees it and when they do they hesitate....did the whistle blow or did it not,... was it some girl ear pinching screeze... which by the way so much sounded like a whistle that the came actually stopped at one time...
But the next goal was around the corner as Danielle gave a great pass from the boards right in front of the net and with help from Jordyn, all Gillian was to do is put it in, 2-1.
Kiawna keeps working hard even in the last few minutes of the game, but it is Meagan who makes a brillliant, NHL worthy glove save and stops every thought the rebels might ever had scoring on her!
One last attack gets Natalee digging her way in on the boards and fires a hard shot along the goalline and Gillian makes sure it gets were it was supposed to end up in the first place and there by getting herself a hat trick!
