After finishing the pre-season with a 5-1-1 record the Rams started their first regular season test by hosting the South Huron Sabres.
We saw a Rams team that was willing but not quite ready. South Huron will never be an easy opponent and for those new to the midget girls, there is a bit of a rivalry going on. The Mount Forest Rams last year stopped South Huron death in their tracks by putting them out of provincials in a spectacular way.
This was after a season of mostly ties and losses and only 1 win against them, but never by much.
Sunday they were the team that was more organized, passed well and scored first.
First period started with the Rams a little intimidated by the well passing Sabres, we were able to keep them under control for most of the first period, but lack of concentration and the Sabres were able to capitalize and that resulted in a goal for our guests.
Second period started with the Rams taking more control and starting to pass and shoot more, putting pressure on their goalie, resulting in nice passing work by Dani, and Gilllian was able to shoot on net but was stopped, a quick pick up off her own rebound found its way into the back of the net and the game was tied.
Both teams going back and forth in the attack keeping both goalies busy, but no more goals scored in the game despite several good individual actions.
Pretty good start of the regular season! Tonight the next game against West Oxford.....Are you ready girls???
