International Silver Stick Weekend 2017
Oh what a weekend!!!

So many moments to remember....Great Moments and Mostly Highlights, you All played so well and should be proud of what you accomplished, Semi-finalist is quite something!

From coach Walther:

As the regular season draws to an end the time arrives for one of the most prestigious hockey tournaments, the International Silver Stick in Sarnia, where Mount Forest Midget B girls travelled to compete in.

With Kyla Pacheco out due to injury (but was there to cheer on her team mates) the Rams called up Tori Grice from the Bantams to take her spot.

Friday morning the girls started against the Hershey Jr Bears from Pennsylvania, they started very strong and took the lead in the first period followed by an even stronger second period for the Rams with goals from Taylor, Michaela, Hayley, Gillian, Jenna and Shannon, the third period was scoreless, but a 6-0 win said it all.

Mount Forest could not ask for a better start of a tournament.

Friday night the Rams had to play the Mississauga Chiefs and again they played very strong with lots of shots and rebounds and resulted in a 3-0 win, with goals from Taylor, Hayley and Gillian.

Saturday morning Kent County Fillies were the opponent, the Rams continued with their strong play again capitilizing on the rebounds with a 4-1 win with goals from Dani, Tori, Taylor and Hayley.

The afternoon game was against the hometown team the Sarnia Lady Stings, this was the battle for first place in the A pool, and probably with the thought of being already in the semi finals, they came out flat and could not find their groove. The fact that Taylor was given a 2 game suspension for not much of anything, made it even worse,  Sarnia took a 1-0 lead in the first and added one more in the second period.  Jordyn put the Rams on the board with 4 minutes to go in the 3rd period, with a beautiful single play, but the damage was done, Sarnia won and clinched first place in the pool, which was something to be avoided as it was the South Huron Sabres they had to face now, which is always a tough opponent, but they put them out a few times before....

Sunday morning, with Taylor out the coaching staff had to shuffle the lines around. But again the Rams showed a lack of hunger for a win, The Sabres took the lead and with a minute and a half left in the last period the Rams pulled their goalie for a extra player, but where unable to score, and with the net empty the Rams lost the puck and the Sabres made it 2-0.

It was not the outcome that the Rams wanted but overall they, the coaching staff and no doubt all the parents are very proud of how far they came, how ALL the girls played.

I would like to thank Tori Grice for playing with us this weekend, Karen Cottingham for filling in for Chuck while he was building sand castles in the Dominican (he was there for the semi final), Julie for keeping them all in line and all the parents for bringing their kids to the arena and cheering them on.

For all the girls that have exams coming up good luck and see you all at the next game!!!

Walther

And here are some of our Hockey Stars that got into the limelight...

It was decided that a Player of the Game would be chosen after every game, which was not easy!! So we will introduce you to 5 of our new HOCKEY STARS and lots of pictures after that.

Our first Hockey Star is described by her coaches as a steady, team player on the blue line who proved to have a dangerously accurate shot with which she scored her first goal for the Rams this weekend, it was a beautiful top corner long wrist shot! She started
her hockey career in Markdale playing Atom rep hockey for the Shooting Stars and played for Orangeville and Owen Sound.
She feels most at home at the defence and likes to take shots from the point and
loves playing with her new friends n Mount Forest...

...and that makes YOU MICHAELA a HOCKEY STAR OF THE DAY!!!

...another Rams Star is still a bantam girl that always faces some fierce competion, on and off the ice...as a  sister rivalry keeps both of them on their toes! She has played hockey since the age of 5, every level with the boys.  She was captain of her team last year and her coach entered her into a penalty free mvp award contest which she won!
She loves the game and enjoys playing with her sister.
There is an
ongoing scoring competition with her sibling. She had to step up and show off her skills  and her coaches for this weekend say she is ready to get into midget level and great things will be happening...

...and for that TORI, you are a HOCKEY STAR OF THE DAY!!!

...the teams next star shines brighter every time she steps on the ice!

She was five years old as she decided to hang up ballet shoes and trade them for a pair hockey skates. She joined the Arthur Tyke hockey team where she played hockey up to the Bantam level with the boys. But getting into midget the decision was made to come and join the Mount Forest girls and she is dedicated and has worked hard to achieve a couple of assists and  goals.  She enjoys making new friends, great memories, and loves being part of a team that is committed to work hard during the games but they also enjoy fun times together. Her coaches are impressed by her
willingness to work hard, her positive attitude and always eager to learn something new...

...and for that SHANNON, you are our HOCKEY STAR OF THE DAY!

...and as we move to game number 4 in the tournament, a hard fought battle and another girl stepped up...she started playing hockey in her second year of Atom after having played Ringette most of her life. She joined the Rams rangs and never looked back...she is one of the girls I personally have seen growing up from incredibly shy into a beautiful young lady that according to her coaches keeps mostly a low profile on the ice only to accelerate with an accurate shot and surprise everybody as she is one of the 4 that will hang up her skates this year, we wish for a great end to wonderful hockey career!

...and for that Jordyn you are A HOCKEY STAR OF THE DAY!!!

...last but surely not least is a young girl that I always fondly remember as being "forever" playing Atom....

She started her hockey at the age of 3 in Honeywood and was always drawn to the net to play goalie, it could not be denied and she got her first pads for christmas in 2008 and never looked back. She played a 4 years in Mount Forest and left for Saugeen Maitland, until she came back to Mount Forest this year still being bantam. She loves the physical and mental part of the game and can't wait to shut down some former teammate when ever she gets the chance. Her coaches describe her as being fiercely competitive and always ready. She loves to be a motivator and uses humor to keep the nerves at bay..
.

...and for that MARISSA...YOU ARE A HOCKEY STAR OF THE DAY!!!
