SILVER STICK FINALIST
This past weekend the Lady Rams travelled to Sarnia to compete in the International Silver Stick Finals.

Play got underway Friday morning with our girls facing off against the Lucan Irish. The girls came out firing on all cylinders scoring three girls in the first period to take a commanding lead after the first. Dominant play continued in the second and third periods but we were unable to cash in and when the final buzzer sounded it was a 3-0 win for our team.
Game two Friday afternoon was against a familiar foe in the West Oxford Inferno. Solid play from both teams and action at both ends of the ice would eventually lead to a scoreless 0-0 tie for the girls. After a very good first day start the players/parents headed out for a team dinner and some down time.
Saturday morning the Lady Rams would square off against the St. Clair Shores Saints from Michigan and it definitely didn't disappoint the fans in attendance. Mt. Forest opened the scoring mid-way through the first but with a minute remaining in the frame the Saints would counter back with one of their own. The second and third periods provided spirited hockey from both clubs but no one was able to sneak one past either goalie. This game ended in a 1-1 tie for our girls but it was a hard fought battle against a very talented Michigan squad.
Saturday's afternoon game versus Chicago had a semi-final berth on the line. The girls opened the scoring midway through the first period and would carry that lead right through till the final buzzer sounded. Some great goaltending and defensive play helped preserve the 1-0 win. After the game it was back to the hotel for a swim and a pizza party sponsored by Stop 23, thanks again, and off to bed.
Semi-finals early Sunday morning would see the girls take on the Ilderton Jets for a spot in the final that afternoon. It was a slow start for our team as the team from Ilderton would strike first halfway through the first for a 1-0 lead. Ilderton maintained the lead till the 1:28 mark of the second when Mt. Forest striked to even things up at a goal a piece. Then all of a sudden in the third it was like someone flipped a light switch and Bang, Bang, Bang it was 4-1 and off to the Finals.
It was finally here the final we all expected our Lady Rams versus the St. Clair Shores Saints. This final was the way each final should be close right till the very end. The first and second periods remained scoreless as we entered the final frame. Four minutes in to the third St. Clair was finally able to solve our goaltender and score what would eventually be the game winner. The girls fought hard till the very end before falling 1-0 to the team from Michigan.
These girls that make up our Mt. Forest PeeWee B team played their hearts out all weekend in one the toughest tourneys to win. It should be noted that each game this weekend was periods of 12-15-15 as compared to 10-10-12 we play the rest of the season, yes a lot of hockey! We had to overcome some adversity in the final 3 games as one of our key players Bre suffered a fractured wrist but the remaining 3 defence and entire team stepped up in her absence. Huge congrats to our goalie Addison Stevens for the MVP in the final game, well done. All 14 team members can hold their heads high as they competed hard till the very end and earned a well deserved Silver Medal and team banner for their efforts. WELL DONE!!!!!!!
