MICHIGAN TOURNEY
The girls travelled across the border this past weekend to play in their first tournament of the season.

Our first game was on Friday night at 7:00 vs the Traverse City North Stars. The girls played hard right from the onset and jumped to a 2-0 lead after one period. We continued our strong play through the next 2 periods but could not get anything past the opposition's goalie and walked away with a 2-0 victory although we did spend most of the 3rd period shorthanded.
Saturday at 12:00 the girls faced off against the Washington Wild from yes Seattle, nothing like flying across the country for a tournament I guess. It was another strong start for the girls as they got up 2-0 halfway through the 2nd before Washington cut the lead to 2-1 with 17 seconds left in the second. It would remain that way till under 2 minutes left in the third when Washington evened the score 2-2 to force a shootout. Unfortunately we couldn't score and lost a tough one 3-2 and like the 1st game occupied the penalty box for a good majority.
Game 2 Saturday night we played the host St. Clair Shores Saints. Although we controlled the majority of the game, our opponent was able to capitalize scoring 2 power play goals and when the game was over the girls came out on the short end with a 3-0 loss.
On Sunday the girls faced Traverse City in the consolation final and like the previous 3 games we controlled the play and cruised to a 8-0 victory and finally the officials let us play hockey, as we only received one penalty.
I commend these girls on 4 well played games, our 2-2 record doesn't reflect just how good all 15 players did this weekend. Each game we out shot our opponents and controlled the majority of the play, in short the opposing goalies stood on their heads. The girls responded well having to play three 15 minute periods as compared to back at home two 10's and a 12. Many positives can and have been taken from this weekend as it shows the girls are trending in the right direction. WELL DONE GIRLS!!!!!
