The Mount Forest U15B Girls were crowned champions at the Annual Meagan Byers Memorial Tournament this past weekend!
The girls finished up a busy weekend with nothing but smiles on their faces. The girls started off the tournament a bit slow with 1 to 0 loss against Orangeville on Friday afternoon. Lots of good chances to score but just could not find a way to solve a tough Orangeville goalie. During the Friday evening game, MF was matched up with a team from Ayr and the girls found a way to generate some offence and netted 7 goals and allowed 0. Saturday morning they were matched against their local rivals from Walkerton, who came out strong and won all the battles in the blue paint giving the girls a 4 to 1 loss. After pool play, the girls were positioned in 3rd place and were going to have to solve the riddle of Orangeville and Walkerton once again heading into the final round. In the semis against Orangeville, the girls came out flying and were rewarded with a 3 to 0 win. In the finals, they were set to play Walkerton once again in what could be considered a 'heavy weight' battle. Both teams came out strong and it set the tournament up for a great final. With the home town crowd on their side, the girls found a way to score 3 and take a 3 to 1 lead into the third period. Walkerton did not back down and scored again with minutes left in the game. The MF girls found a way to 'grind out' the remaining minutes of the game and finish with a 3-2 gold medal win. Coach Meagan would be super proud of you all!
