First game in a whole new season and the girls were ready! It started immediately with some nice passing between Jenna and Jordyn as they rushed toward the Storms end. But it wasn’t their first game and they came back quick. It got busy and a bit stressfull for first time goalie Meagan, but she managed great.
The Mount forest defence was ready to intercept and Jordyn took a chance and raced for the Storms end.
Kaithlyn used the board nicely to bring the puck forwards. Matthea gave a nice pass on the blue line to set up an attack.
As Gillian brought the puck out of the Mount Forest zone, she made sure the puck landed on Jordyn stick who went for the net.
As the Rams got pushed into the defense, Brittany made sure with a great interception of the puck, that this was not an option. The play moved back to the Saugeen zone and Erica made sure it stayed there, at least for a while.
But Cali had to race back and take possession of the puck again, it got to Kiawna and another attack was set up. A loose puck that ended up in the last minute of the first period in front of the Saugeen net was unfortunately ignored.
As the second period gets underway it is Danielle that goes for the net and is being helped with a nice pass on her stick, but her shot goes just wide. As pass from behind is played right through the middle and the Storms make no mistake as they celebrate their first goal of the night.
The girls try hard and really work together, a great shot from Kaithlyn is stopped. The game turns quick towards the Rams net and Meagan finds herself without any help and throws herself on the puck and makes a great save.
Jenna shows some fancy footwork and Natalee does some good work bringing the puck in the Saugeen end and finishes with a shot on net. Mount Forest still passes the puck around nicely and uses the whole ice, but we can see they are getting tired. Saugeen outskates the Mount Forest defence with ease and a break away ends in another goal for the team in white.
And when girls get tired, penalties start happening, cross checking and a slashing. But they don’t give up and Kiawna goes for a great bodycheck.
As Gillian brings the puck back in the Saugeen zone, she gives a nice pass to Erica who goes for the net.
But the Storm does not give up either and the Rams get a break when their net gets of the spot and the whistle is blown.
Gillian gets another great chance to score but it goes just wide. Danielle also gives it a try and comes close as well. With the last 30 seconds on the board the last face off is taken in the Mount Forest end and the last save is for Meagan. Girls it was a good game and we know next time you will be on the winning end!
