Rams open Sweetheart tourney with win, loss
ORANGEVILLE -- The Mount Forest peewee C Rams roared out of the gate at the Sweetheart Tournament with a convincing 4-0 romp over the Woolwich Wild on Friday morning.

Rams assistant captain Morgan F. continued her assault on the opposition, scoring two unassisted goals in the second period before linemate Paige D. scored two of her own.

Morgan claimed the Hard Hat Award for her determined effort in Friday's opener, once again hoisting her teammates up on her shoulders and leading them to victory.

Paige was the coaches' choice for Mount Forest's game MVP for her clever work around the Woolwich net and Abby W. won the Super Girl Cape for a solid overall effort on the backend and a terrific rush.

Jayde M. and Shea M. picked up assists for the Rams.

Later in the day, the Rams stumbled to a 3-1 loss to the hosts, the Orangeville Tigers, in Friday afternoon's matchup at the Teen Ranch.

Haven L. scored the Rams' lone marker in Friday's afternoon match.

Despite outplaying the Tigers for long stretches in Friday's affair, the Rams were unable to capitalize on numerous scoring chances.

On Friday, Rams rookie blueliner Presley B. assembled two of her finest games of the season, making smart, safe plays throughout and helping to support her defensive partner.

Presley was a deserving recipient of the Rams' hardest worker of the game award.

Rams captain Haven L. did on Friday what she always does -- play smart, heads-up hockey, back-check like a fiend and do all the little things right (well-timed line changes, staying on the right side of the puck and helping to support her defencemen).

The Tigers made the most of their opportunities Friday. And they served up a stiff reminder to the Mount Forest girls that if every player doesn't work her butt off on every shift and play her position as the coaches preach, losses are the natural outcome.

The Rams return to action for Day 2 at the tournament on Saturday at 4 p.m. against the Caledon Coyotes and 9 p.m. versus the Cold Creek Comets.
