AYTON -- The Mount Forest peewee
C girls collected a hard-fought 3-2 victory over arch-rivals, the
Walkerton Capitals, in Sunday's WOAA consolation championship game.
The game featured a frantic last minute when the Capitals threw everything they had at the Rams' net, only to be turned back time and again by the hell-bent Mount Forest girls and their last-line of defence, superb goalie Alyssa V.
The Rams showed what they are made off, responding to two disappointing losses on Saturday by the only way they no how – with their damn the torpedoes approach.
Jaime G. scored twice for the winners on Sunday, demonstrating to all in attendance why she is such a threat from the Mount Forest blueline and from up front as a hard-charging forward.
Presley B. scored the other goal for Mount Forest, on her patented moonshot blast from the point.
The Rams displayed their superior fitness level throughout Sunday's match.
"We might've been outmanned all weekend, playing with nine skaters again. But our girls certainly weren't about to be outworked," said Rams coach Bill W.
"The Rams worked so hard for us off the ice as well as on it all season. We are so happy for them and their parents to be bringing the trophy and those bronze medals home."
Shea L. and Presley each chipped in with two points in Sunday's bronze game.
Jaime took home the Super Girl Cape, while unsung hero Abby W. was presented with the Hard Hat for an efficiently quiet effort, thwarting the Capital forwards repeatedly, from her post on the Rams' blueline.
On Saturday, the Mount Forest girls absorbed a 1-0 loss to South Bruce before taking it on the chin from the eventual league champs, Chatsworth Township, 4-0.
The Rams reconvene on Thursday for practice at 8 p.m. in Mount Forest in preparation for the provincial championships on April 10-12 in Mississauga.
