Rams shake off slow start to down West Grey
The Mount Forest peewee C Rams got off to a meandering start but survived a 1-0 brush with the visiting West-Grey Warriors in Sunday evening's action.

"Thank goodness for our defence. They played great," said head coach Bill Walker. "We also got some terrific goaltending from Alyssa V."

The Rams took their sweet time to get rolling but Shea L. wristed the winner past the Warriors goalie with 1:36 left in the third.

Defender Presley B. started the play with a tremendous end-to-end rush. Paige D. earned the goal's other assist.

The winning marker capped a tremendous effort from the Rams' mightiest mite, Shea,  who took home the Hard Hat Award for her determined work all  game.

Paige D. was called on in the game's final seconds to rush in from her position at the point to make a heads-up check on a Warriors forward who had a wide-open net.

Coach Walker challenged the sluggish Rams to win at least one period following the second frame.

And the Mount Forest girls responded with a spirited final 12 minutes where they matched the visitors stride-for-stride and body check for body check.

Rams blueliners Jayde M., Jaime G., Presley B. and Abby W. proved too much to handle for the West-Grey skaters who didn't quite know what to do with four defenders who were given the green light by their fearless coaches.

Mount Forest's red-hot girls have now notched seven wins in their last nine games, including a recent silver medal at the Orangeville Sweetheart tourney where the Rams fell to a B team, the Caledon Coyotes, by a narrow two-goal margin in the final.

Next action for the Rams is 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 21 in Mount Forest. The Orangeville Tigers provide the opposition in Game 1 of this best-of-three provincial qualifier.

The Mount Forest peewee C girls practice Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Clifford.
