Feb 5th, 2012 Durham Tournament
On February 5, the Mount Forest Rams Atom LL team were invited to Durham to take part in their Atom LL Tournament. The first game was important as the winner would continue on to the A side for a possible championship win. We were up against a tough Shelburne team and we were short one player. Our boys played very well, but came up just one goal short, losing 3 to 2. Goals were 1 from Ben Wildeman, and 1 from Joseph Ferguson assisted by Tyler Stewart.

Now that we were on the B side the next game against the home team would decide who would be playing for consolation. With a full roster, our boys were pumped for a win, but it wouldn't come easy and near the end of the third period we were down 2 to 0. There was 2 minutes left on the clock when Joseph found the back of the Durham net and it gave the boys some new life. Thats when coach Jim pulled our goalie with a minute and a half left, and we had six very determined boys on the ice. Talk about intense; Ben was able to shovel the puck past the net minder with just 4 seconds left on the clock, sending us into overtime. Spencer McArthur, Nathan Zeinstra, and Alec Beauregard all had assists in regulation play. There was no scoring for either team in OT, so it went to a shoot out. Joseph was first up, and he managed to pull the Durham goalie way out to put the first one in. Then Alec was up and he very handily snapped one past the goalie. Last up was Ethan Smart, who did a great job of sneaking one past the goalie for a third time. On the other end of the ice was our goalie Hunter, who was playing great all tournament. Now all he had to do was stop three shooters, and he did, like a pro, with one fantastic save after another. Now we were onto the finals of the B side and up against a very fast New Hamburg team. Our defence of Alexander Varallo, Brett Stewart, Tyler, and Ethan was very strong all tournament and this game was no different, keeping New Hamburg to just one goal. While our forwards, Spencer, Noah Felsbourg, 1 assist, Alec, 1 goal, Ben, 1 goal, Nathan, 1 goal, and Joseph 1 goal and 1 assist, all played like a well oiled machine. They passed well and kept the pressure on the New Hamburg team to finally bring home the win with a score of 4 to 1. It was a great day for our Atom LL boys. Now we head into our playoffs and we hope to bring some of that great teamwork with us. Good luck boys!
