Finally A Game!!
With a month of practice under their belts, and a couple of cancellations, the Pee Wee Local League boys were excited to hit the ice for their first exhibition game. Warm ups, handshakes and a taunting skate around the Walkerton net and it was game on!!
We won the face off and a quick rush saw Keaton and Carsten putting pressure on the Walkerton Goaltender...no luck, time for a change. With less than a minute played, Jordon tests the refs knowledge on the headshot crackdown. Into the box he goes and Coach Kevin gives him a smile and that "I told you so" look.
Moments later, Ryan takes a beauty pass from Dalton and gives the Mount Forest fans what we've waited all summer for...the first goal! Our bells were silenced however when Walkerton answered and ended the period with 2 quick goals.
With encouragement from the bench and a change of ends we were hopeful of turning the game around. Our Rams kept working with some some great passing but were unable to find the net. By the time the buzzer went at the end of the 2nd the score was 3-1 Walkerton and Captain Alex was out for a hit from behind (must be a family trait as his cousin left the Walkerton bench for the same reason).
Short a defenceman for the 3rd, some line changes were necessary, and the boys did their best to defend Tyler who had all too clear of a view for the remainder of the game!
Although the final score was 4-1, our Rams made us proud, never giving up through to the final buzzer. Our coaching staff now knows what to work on at the next practice and everyone left the dressing room smiling! Now that's good hockey.
You can be sure this team will be a force to be reckoned with as they look to defend their WOAA Championship title!!
