Practice and perseverance pays off!
It was a game full of twists and turns as the Pee Wee LL took on the Listowel Cyclones tonight.  Period one had us shaking our heads as we were down 1-0 early on, had our first waved off goal and many missed scoring chances.  With some players trying out new positions, it took our boys some time to find their groove.  They did well holding their own but were unable to adjust the score through the first period of play.

There was a brief moment of happiness in the second period as Mitchell blasted one into their net all the way from  centre ice!! Unfortunetly, it was also waved off as a couple of our skaters had not yet cleared the zone!  They owe you one Mitchell!!  Although they kept the pressure on and managed to stay out of the penalty box, the score remained at 1-0 after 25 minutes of play.
Only the players and coaches know for sure what is said during the flood, but whatever it was the boys took it to heart.  They came out strong in the third with the defence using the boards to move the puck up and the forwards being there ready for it.  It was back to basics hockey.
Great backchecking by Jayson and a questionable call from the ref led to a tense moment as Tyler faced his first penalty shot of the season.  Well, the crowd was tense but Tyler calmly stared him down and sent the Listowel player back to his bench heartbroken.
Next skill to work on...the penalty kill.  A 4 min headshot penalty gave the boys time to put into action what the coaches have taught them about playing shorthanded.  Ryan fired a quick shot on net and 11 seconds into the penalty Carsten was able to poke the puck through the five hole.  A little over a minute later, Kyle gives us the go ahead goal unassisted.  2 shorthanded goals in one penalty...that's the way to get revenge!
Listowel was able to score another, at the 5 min mark, after a puck took a nasty deflection off a skate right in front of our net.  Even with all the bad luck our RAMS never gave up and perseverance pays.  Chris was able to score the game winning goal with a little help from Jordon and Carsten.
It's the little things that make a big difference in the outcome of the games.  Passing the puck, winning the battles and playing as a team.  Keep working hard at practices, persevere and set your sights on that next victory!
See everyone in Shelburne Thursday @ 8pm when we take on the Wolves in an exhibition rematch.
