Rams collect exhibition win
KITCHENER – Carley C. used her patented knuckle puck to score the game-winner in the second period and lead her Mount Forest bantam Rams to a 3-0 verdict over the Kitchener Lady Rangers on Sunday.

Rams assistant captain Morgan F. did most of the spade work on the winning goal, digging the puck out from behind the Rangers’ net and setting up a beauty pass to Carley.

Sunday’s exhibition match also saw Hailey H. make a determined foray into enemy territory, adding a third-period insurance goal on a rebound.

Fellow Rams winger Shea M. hustled throughout the match, forcing turnovers with her gritty forechecking and backchecking. The diminutive rookie was rewarded with a clutch empty-net goal late in the third.

“We talked in the room about driving the net and making sure we got into the dirty areas in front of Kitchener’s goal to generate some offence,” said Rams coach Bill Walker.

“We did that as well as we’ve done all season. And our team defence was sturdy in front of our own net so the coaches were extremely happy with our effort overall.”

Call-up goalie Rachel T. was razor sharp in the Rams’ net, handling 10 shots in posting the shutout.

“Kitchener provided a stiff test for our girls and we are certain they will bring an even better effort for the rematch on Wednesday in Mount Forest,” said the Rams coach.

Puck drop at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex is 7:40 p.m.

Sunday’s win boosts the Rams’ overall record to 35-7-5 (won-lost-tied) this season.
