First Tournament of the Year
The Atom Girls saw their first tournament action of the season this weekend in Mitchell.  The first game early on Friday morning against the Wilmot Wolverine's saw most of girls come out a little "sleepy" and lacking some effort on all fronts. The 1-0 loss left our Rams wishing they could turn back the clock.  Overall, it was a decent game, but the girls knew what they had to do and shook the cobwebs out for the next game.

The second game of the day against the Petrolia Oilers was a much better game and our girls came out more determined than ever to show everyone what the Rams are all about.  Great end to end action kept the coaches and fans on the edge of their seats.  Excellent defensive play from Jamie Glerum (racking up her penalty minutes tally), Aalia Gade, Jayde McRobb and Shea Lynn McLean kept the puck in the Oilers end for most of the game.  With 2 questionable goals from the Oilers late in the second period, our girls did not give up and with 7 seconds left in the second, Chloe Roy dug one into the Oilers net from a hardworking Paige Dowling and Taryn North to make it 2-1.  The hard work paid off as Chaise McRobb scored on the power play early in the third period from Morgan Flanagan and Paige Dowling to make it a tie game.  With 30 seconds left in the game Haven LeBlanc was stoned by the Oilers goalie on a great last chance effort.  That was more like it!  The girls came together and worked hard and the coache's were really impressed with the turn around the girls had made.  Now, back again on Saturday with our third game versus the first place Ingersoll Ice.  The girls played another strong game and kept the play in the neutral zone for the majority of the game.  With a scoreless first and second period, our girls were coming on strong and creating lots of chances in front of the Ice's net.  Unfortunately for us, the Ice goalie had quite a size advantage and was able to shut us down.  With 2 minutes left in the third period the Ice walked away with 3 unanswered goals to end our tournament action for the weekend.
Overall a great weekend and a great learning experience for the girls!  Keep up the hard work girls!
