Atom C Win GOLD!!
The Atom C girls played their first tournament of the year this past weekend at home in the Mount Forest Girls Classic.

Play got underway on Friday that would see the girls play TCDMHA, a perennial powerhouse in girls hockey, for their first game. The Rams sored twice early in the first to jump to a 2-0 lead. That lead would last till the third until the visitors were able to counter with 2 quick markers to tie the game. Both teams played hard till the final buzzer with the game ending in a 2-2 tie. The Rams second game of the day was against BCH. This game remained scoreless through the first two periods as the girls just couldn't sneak one past the BCH goalie. Mt. Forest finally netted one early in the third to grab the lead, only to be answered by BCH moments later. Once again this game would also end in a tie 1-1. The final game of the day was vs league rival Walkerton. This game showed that our girls were somewhat on the tired side as Walkerton dominated from the outset. As was the case in the previous 2 games the girls hung on for a 1-1 tie.
Play resumed on Saturday for the Rams as they would play their final round robin game against the Brantford Ice Kats. If the Rams had any chance of moving on to the final a win was crucial in this contest. After a much needed good nights sleep, the Rams came out flying and controlled the game from start to finish. Final score was 6-0 for the Rams, they would finish the round robin at 1-0-3 with no losses. Now all they could do is sit back and wait, as their fate was in the hands of the remaining teams that still had games to play. It wasn't until Saturday night the girls finally learned they had clinched a spot in the Championship final on Sunday. You talk about some excited girls WOW!!
The final Sunday morning would see the Rams square off versus the TCDMHA Rebels and it sure didn't disappoint all the fans in attendance, this one was a barn burner from the start. The Rams got on the scoreboard early in the first when Megan Parker was able to knock her own rebound in the back of the net. Our team found the penalty box later in the first but with some great fore checking Jayme Boyd scored a shorthanded tally on a great setup from Kate Crispin. The first period ended with the Rams clinging to a 2-0 lead. Halfway through the second TCDMHA kept the pressure on and snuck one past our goaltender to narrow the Rams lead to 2-1 entering the final frame. Boyd would find the back of the net once again early in the third, assisted by Parker to regain a 2 goal lead. TCDMHA would answer only minutes later to cut the lead to just one for the Rams. The final five minutes of play was intense as the Rams had their hands full trying to get the puck out of their own end. The tenacious Rebels were coming hard from everywhere and the Rams were caught on their heels. A couple of key saves by Mackenzie Burke would prove to be the deciding factor as the final buzzer sounded. Final score Mt. Forest 3 and TCDMHA 2.
