W.O.A.A. FINALISTS
This past weekend was the year end Atom C girls tournament hosted by TCDMHA at the Keady arena.

The top six teams were seeded into two groupings for the Maroon Championship. Group 1 was Grey Highlands(Markdale), Lucknow/Wingham and Bruce Peninsula. Group 2 featured Mt.Forest, TCDMHA and Walkerton.
The Rams first game was against TCDMHA on Saturday at 1:00. The host Keady arena's ice is much different from what the girls are used to playing on because of it's very small size. The girls were well aware that there was going to be very little space to free wheel and that shots on the net would be critical. Right from the first puck drop the girls kept the pressure in their end and found the back of the net in the first couple of minutes. By the end of the first the Rams had opened up a four goal lead over the Rebels. The Rebels would answer back in the second for their first goal but less than a minute later Mt.Forest replied. The girls continued to play hard in the third and would score one more to win the game 6-1. After grabbing some food and rest the girls hit the ice at 6:00 to play Walkerton. With a berth in the Final on the line the girls knew they had to shut the door on Walkerton. This Rams team has played very good defensive hockey all year and that is exactly what they did in this contest. The girls were able to keep the puck out of their own end for the majority of the game. Our girls would find themselves in penalty trouble but like always the girls flourish on the penalty kill. Although Mt.Forest would get their chances to score the Walkerton goalie turned away everything she faced and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. By virtue of points Mt.Forest advanced to the final vs Markdale at 3:00 Sunday.
As game time approached on Sunday the girls were ready to go and wanted a victory. Markdale is one of the best if not the best teams in all of the OWHA. A pep talk prior to puck drop let the girls know that they had nothing to lose and give it your all to the final buzzer and they definitely didn't disappoint. The first period seen lots of back and forth action with neither team really in command. It wasn't till late in the second that Markdale would solve our goalie and score to take 1-0 lead entering the third. The third period was just like the first two with opportunities at both ends of the ice. At the 7:00 minute mark the Rams would answer to tie the game at 1-1. In the dying minute of the third Mt.Forest had the pressure on Markdale and just as the horn sounded, Karlee Rice's shot was in the air. The puck did indeed find the back of the net but it was just a half second too late oh so close. We then entered sudden death overtime playing 4 on 4 and after 5 minutes we were still tied. The second overtime was 3 on 3 and it also ended tied. Now on to the dreaded shootout after the first 3 shooters from each team we were again tied 1-1. Now to a sudden death shootout after a failed attempt by Mt.Forest, Markdale would claim victory as their shot would find the back of the net. In one word WOW what a final, congratulations to Markdale, our Mt.Forest girls played their hearts out and can hold their heads high. Well done girls everyone is super proud of your accomplishment.
