Championship Gold!
The Lady Rams played host to the 2nd annual Girls Classic Tournament this past weekend at home.
Action began Friday morning for the girls as they would tangle with TCDMHA Rebels in game one. Perhaps it was a bit early for our girls(sleepy tired) as they would surrender 4 goals in the first and trail 4-1 entering the second. The girls would get things going in the second and narrow the gap 4-3 to begin the third. Our team kept pressing but just couldn't get the equalizer and would fall 4-3 to the team from Chatsworth.
Game 2 later on Friday would see the girls face-off against the Walkerton Capitals. The Rams came out strong and hard to grab a 2-0 lead after the first frame. Mt. Forest would add another in the second to go up 3-0 to start the third. The girls would find the back of the net 3 more times in the third to answer Walkerton's 2 tallies to walk away with a 6-2 victory.
Game 3 Saturday the girls squared off against the Saugeen Shores Storm and they dominated from start to finish. Our goalie would not see a shot the entire game and the girls cruised to a 10-0 win.
Game 4 later Saturday was against the Owen Sound Ice Hawks. This game was much the same as the previous with our goaltender not seeing any rubber throughout the contest. The final score was 5-0 which secured the girls a spot in Sundays final.
The final Sunday would see the Rams square off versus the Rebels from Chatsworth. This was the final we had all hoped for as the players and coaching staff were eager to avenge that first game or well first period of game 1. The game would start slow like always for the girls as the Rebels would score first after a fortunate bounce. Minutes later the Rams would answer with a great end to end rush from defenseman Natalie to make it 1-1. Only 20 seconds later the Rebels would reply to grab the lead again 2-1. Our girls kept working hard and would find the back of the net again before the first period ended to tie it all up 2-2 to start the second. Their hard work and aggressive play continued in the second and finally we would take the lead 3-2. Then only seconds later we would grab another to lead 4-2 after 2 periods. The Rams kept digging deep and early in the third would add another to jump to a 5-2 lead. The Rebels kept pressing and only minutes later received another good bounce to narrow the Rams lead to 5-3. The final 5 minutes of the game provided spirited play from both sides and when the final buzzer sounded it was official, Rams 5 and the Rebels 3. Both teams need to be congratulated on a great final, well done.
It must be said that these 13 Lady Rams won this tournament as a team. Every single player contributed one way or another in the past 3 days to claim victory. After that first period in game 1 these young girls went 28-5 over the remaining 14 periods of play, that truly is an amazing accomplishment. Every single player made their mark on the game sheet, leading the way Megan P. with 12 pts and Berlyn G. 11pts. These 13 girls that make up the Mt. Forest Rams Atom C team turned in ROCKSTAR performances this weekend. Well done girls you earned and deserve the GOLD MEDAL!!!!!!!!!!!!
