Rams hand Blades first league loss
By Christine Rivet
MILDMAY – Alyssa V. posted her 20th shutout of the season as her Mount Forest Rams notched a 1-0 victory over the home-ice South Bruce Blades in Sunday’s WOAA action.

Rams captain Haven L. scored the game-winner on a breakaway early in the third period as the Mount Forest girls snapped their two-game losing streak against the Blades.

“A much-improved effort on our part,” said coach Bill W. “We worked hard start to finish. We moved the puck well. When you spread the puck around, that opens up the ice.”

The win lifts the Rams to a 10-1-3 (won-lost-tied) record in league play and pulls them into a three-way tie for first with Chatsworth Township and Kincardine.

Sunday’s Mount Forest win also marked South Bruce’s first loss in league play this season.

The Rams have relied on solid performances from their netminder all season long and Sunday was no different.

“Alyssa has played extremely well for us this year,” said the Rams coach. “It’s not easy when you don’t often see a lot of shots because it’s difficult to stay focused in those games. But she has done a great job of dialing in and making saves when we need them.

“While Alyssa gets the shutout, those stats also mean we are playing well defensively as a team. So, 20 shutouts on the season is a tribute to all our girls.”

Next up for the Rams is practice on Tuesday in Mount Forest at 9:30 p.m. Warm-up begins at 8:40 p.m.
