The
Mount Forest bantam 'C' Rams learned two valuable lessons on Friday
night, resulting in a 1-1 draw with Lucknow-Wingham.
Firstly, the girls discovered that once they beat a team, that team will come back much harder the second time.
Secondly, the Rams ascertained that the longer you let a team hang around, the more dangerous that team becomes.
“Our Rams seemingly are learning a new lesson each week and sometimes they are not good ones,” said coach Bill Walker.
“The next step for us is not to repeat those mistakes.”
For some reason, the Rams either play down to a team's level or up to it, depending on the opposition, he said.
“We've got to assert our will against teams. We have to assert our high-tempo, skating game, not wait for someone or something to dictate the pace.”
After surrendering a goal in the second period, the Rams at least got one of their own on the next shift.
Morgan F. hit the net and the scoresheet for the hosts on a goal assisted by Hayley G. and Emily A.
That was a start, but the girls weren't able to maintain their intensity except for brief flashes.
“These are all matters we will attempt to solve quickly or we will find ourselves behind the eight-ball far too many times,” the coach said.
The good news is the Rams are back in action Monday night in Walkerton. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
