The
Mount Forest bantam C Rams kicked off opening day at their own
tournament undefeated through two games on Friday.
Friday's action saw the Rams notch a 1-0 win over Owen Sound and skate to a scoreless tie with East Lambton in the afternoon game.
“Any time you open a tournament and don't allow any goals in your opening two games is a huge bonus,” said coach Bill W.
“We generated a lot of chances and were an inch away from winning either of those game by four goals.”
The Rams will be tested again Saturday when they play a trio of games.
“It's a good thing we are the fittest team around because we will certainly be dipping into our energy reserves,” said the coach.
Friday's opening game saw Morgan F. score the match's lone goal on a nifty breakaway deke on a backhand. She earned the Super Girl Cape for a monstrous effort in all three zones.
Winger Olivia S. took the Hard Hat Award for a solid effort throughout the game, utilizing her blistering speed.
In the girls' second game of the day, Kyla turned heads with a tremendous effort, snuffing out chances on the back end and up front, generating offense on the Rams' power plays.
Peyton M. was presented with the Hard Hat for a rock-solid game utilizing her size and strength along the boards and in front of the opponents' goal.
Goalie Alyssa V. posted back-to-back shutouts in two superb efforts.
“It's amazing what we can accomplish when we keep our feet moving and aren't afraid to mix it up along the boards,” coach Bill noted.
The Rams face the North Bay IceBoltz at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Mount Forest, and then play the St. Thomas Panthers at 2 p.m. in Harriston, and finally the Chatsworth Township Rebels at 7:30 p.m. in Mount Forest.
