Rams shake off rust in win over Lucknow-Wingham
By Christine Rivet
WINGHAM -- After 17 days between games, the Mount Forest bantam C Rams were itching to get back on the ice.

And they did so with authority on Monday night, notching a tidy 4-2 win over Lucknow-Wingham in league play.

The Mount Forest girls were not without some rust on their blades however.

After surrendering the game's first goal mid-way through the first, Morgan F. got the ball rolling for the visitors, taking a nice feed from Emily A. as the clubs skated to a 1-1 tie after one period.

Jayde M. wound up in her own zone and took the puck hard to the Wingham net to give the visitors a one-goal lead heading into the final period.

Evelyn N. scored the eventual winner early in the final frame to give the Rams a two-goal cushion.

A defensive miscue resulted in the hosts drawing to within one goal before Paige D. restored the Rams' two-goal cushion, giving the visitors some much-need breathing room with 3:40 left in the contest.

The visitors from Mount Forest peppered the Wingham goalie with a 30-shot barrage, while the visitors surrendered eight shots.

“A real good effort up and down our lineup considering how long we were away from the ice,” said coach Bill W. “We challenged the girls before the game to see how hard they want to work in this half of the season. They responded well.

“We'll work out a few kinks in our game and be ready to go for a busy stretch next week.”

The Rams hit the ice Wednesday at 7:50 p.m. for practice in Mount Forest.

Mount Forest's next game is Thurs., Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in Clifford when Saugeen Shores visits for a makeup game.
