Rambo the Ram did not want to keep his shirt on and the goals weren’t ready either… and as we did start, it became clear quick that the only one standing in the way was going to be the Walkerton goalie…
The first face off was won by Mount Forest, but all to quick turned against us and Esther had to make a stop, as it was picked up by Elyse and Avery they showed excellence in bringing it up together to the other end and the puck went just wide.As the game gets underway Jenna brings it around from behind the goalie, Cali and Gillian have a hard time working the puck out and Esther makes a lucky save right on the shoulder. But the puck keeps coming back and Alyssa steps in and backhands it out of our zone, to send Abigail on a breakaway, which is stopped but Danielle is right there for the rebound but also stopped under the goalie.
From the face off Nikki gives a great one-timer which is stopped by the Walkerton defence. Avery gets it an brings it back around the net, Meagan picks it up and off she goes, as she tries hard to work her way through the puck ends up at the blue line and Mattea gives it a hard shot back in.
A struggle in front of the Mount Forest net gives Walkerton their first goal. The girls don’t give up and Allysa is pounding on that puck today giving Avery a breakaway, but the Walkerton defence is ready this time.
The second period start off with a nice use of the boards by Avery, Elyse is ready, picks it up only to find the goalie at the other end. As the puck makes it way back a trick we know all to well was almost turned against us, when out of the Walkerton bench came a player flying, Esther was ready and made a great stop.
As the puck is worked out by Elyse, Gillian was ready for the puck to come and the girls could have made a great two on one, but one stick handling moment to many later the opportunity had past and Esther had to make another save.
Lots of chance but no luck this period, Danielle almost got 2 goals and with 4.22 minutes left in the second period the score is still 1-0. Nikki, Meagan an Allyson with Allysa and Natalie covering them, they set up a great attack and kept pushing, no luck. Then a Walkerton blue liner makes it in underneath Esther and the score comes to 2-0. Avery and Nikki go for a breakaway but skate offside.
In the third period Elyse’s hard trying gets her an unfriendly run into a Walkerton stick and she had to leave the ice. Mount Forest gets another chance, as Avery gets tripped and the have a 5 on 4, lots of hard shots, scrambles in front of the net, only to find the goalie over and over again.
It was a game were everybody worked hard against an outstanding performing Walkerton goalie and a lot was learned again today. As the girls head into the play offs we wish them lots of luck and looking forward to seeing them all on the ice again soon!
