CONSOLATION CHAMPS
Wow! What a weekend!  Our Atom Girls played hard all weekend long winning 3 out of 4 games to walk away with the consolation win at this years Markdale Shooting Stars tournament.

With Coach Kevin M.I.A for the first game, the girls were feeling a little out of sorts but in the very capable hands of coaches Ben and Kyle.  Everyone determined to bring on a win, we skated hard and handed the TCDMHA Rebels a 6 - 3 loss.  Our hard work and fast skating proved to the be the ticket for the weekend, but we knew we had our work cut out for us for the next game versus the strong Saugeen Shores Lightning.
And a barn burner it was!  The Rams came out of the gate strong with the only instruction being for Glerum to play "sick 'em" on #2 and for everyone else to skate hard.  We took an early lead 2-0 which seemed to shock the Lightening, but they picked it up too and were soon up on us 3-2.  In a back and forth, end to end, never give up spirit, the scoreboard at the Markdale arena had never seen so much action!  Unfortunately, we ended up with a hard faught 7-5 loss, but not for lack of trying.  This loss tossed us over to the "B" side being forced to face arch rivals Kincardine - a team that we haven't been able to beat for the past 4 years.  But our girls weren't scared.  With some awesome offensive plays, a rock solid defense and a stone wall goalie, it was a sweet 4-3 win for our Rams!  The girls were pumped! Our first final of the year (with many more to come) but first we had to fuel them up with some grilled cheese sandwiches at Steve's Restaurant. The girls could smell a win coming, but they would have their work cut out for them against the small but very fast Lucknow/Wingham team...and some questionable reffing, right Kyle?  The win was within reach with a 4-2 lead with 3 minutes left in the 3rd when the ref called Alyssa for "slashing" and awarded a penalty shot to Lucknow.  Brianna had been making save after save all weekend so we weren't scared, but somehow the puck found it's way into the net bringing the game to a nail biting 4-3.  But with determination and grit, we hung onto the game to bring home the Consolation medals!  Every single one of the girls hit the score sheet in one way or another this weekend which is fantastic to see for the coaches and spectators.  They're really coming together as a team and figuring out that teamwork = WIN!
