Undefeated At Silver Stick ?
The girls went undefeated at the Silver Stick in Saugeen Shores over the past weekend, first game on Friday morning we faced the Petrolia Oilers the final score was 3-1 but with some terrific goaltending on the Oilers part it kept the game close. Chaise got us on the board with a nifty little play from Jamie, 2nd goal Hailey stole the puck and buries it , 3rd goal Lexi Rice bangs in the rebound from Chaise and Ella. The girls Peppered the Petrolia goalie and she stood tall turning them away. Chaise McRobb got MVP for the first game for a good solid 2 way game.
The second game was against Wallaceburg a very strong opponent they posed a good test for the girls, Wallaceburg scored in the 1st period to take the lead this was by far our poorest period of play in the tournament. With the break the coaches went over our game plan to get the girls moving there feet and 8:33 into the second Hailey roofs one top shelf YES!!! where back in it and the girls find there feet, 16 seconds later with a nice feed from Jordyn, Chaise goes in and roofs 1 blocker side WOOO HOOO. But with 9 seconds left in the game the Wallaceburg girls pushing for the equalizer they get it, off a couple feet and in the net with a mad scramble to tie the game. That goal might come back to haunt us later! Jordyn Story was MVP using her terrific speed to slow down the Wallaceburg attack.
The third round robin game we come up against a familiar foe in the form of the Kincardine Kinucks who are always a tough test. Before the game South Huron and Petrolia where playing with South Huron winning 4-0 not good news for us. As of know we are tied in points with S Huron if we win? So we need to score at least 4 goals to beat them for the tie breaker to move on. The game gets underway and the girls are playing there butts off and just can't get by big #9 on the kinucks Defence. But with 1:26 left in the first Jordyn hits Chaise with a laser of a pass she Dangles the D man inside outside she's on a breakway and whistles it high blocker side. To start the 2nd period Ella is flying in off the wing with a high hard wrister off the goalie and Lexi R just can't quite grab the rebound DARN!. Kincardine wasn't quiting and kept pushing back they tie it 1-1 but our defence of Jamie , Jordyn, Lexi W, Alysaa and Shea-Lynn did there job and stood tall in front of Brianna who played a great tournament. The second goal came from Lexi Rice & Ella who hit Chaise cutting in on the wing who buried it where up 2-1. So we need goals to advance based on the plus minus tie breaker format. Kincardine pulls the goalie to try tie the game but Chloe and Chaise hit Hailey who buries it from the blue line in the empty net 3-1 final score. Game MVP went to Brianna Gordon.
As it turns out us and South Huron have identical records at 2-0-1 and it comes down to goals for and against and they have scored 1 more goal than us so they get to carry on to the semi's and we go home ahh SHOOT that bites! All our girls played great you can really see them starting to pass the puck around as noted by some spectators from the other teams and just how relentless our girls where on the fore check, great job by our forwards Brianna A, Alyssa A, Ella , Hailey, Chloe, Chaise, Bailey, Lexi W. It's a good thing we didn't have to pick and MVP for the tournament because it would of been a 14 way tie in this coaches eyes , even though all the girls don't get on the score sheet I can see the effort they are putting in, like I tell the girls 1 may score the goal but she doesn't get it with out the other 4 on the ice doing there job and these efforts are seen by everyone watching.
